2012-2013 School Year

PTA Officers

President: This is an on-going position. The president is responsible for managing and leading the organization this includes scheduling and planning all events for the organization. The president leads the executive committee (officers) with approval from the board of directors. The president is responsible for ensuring that all organization records, filings and finances are kept up to date and maintained in accordance with MDPTA and MCCPTA requirements.

Vice-President: This is an on-going position. The vice-president is responsible for co-leading the organization to include assisting with scheduling and planning events for the organization. .

Secretary: This is an on-going position. The secretary is responsible for recording, drafting and maintaining the minutes of general meetings, board meetings and any other special meetings. Also, the secretary prepares the meeting agendas, flyers advertising meetings and any other correspondence as assigned.

Treasurer: This is an on-going position. This position requires someone who is organized and has basic bookkeeping skills. The treasurer is responsible for managing all

PTA funds to include disbursement of funds as authorized, filing tax-returns, keeping accurate account of all receipts and expenditures (reconciliation of the bank statement monthly) and presenting financial statements to the PTA.

MCCPTA Delegate: This is an on-going position. The delegate is responsible for attending the MCCPTA meetings and reporting information to the PTA. Meetings are usually held once a month.

Chief Technologist: This is an on-going position. The Chief Technologist’s primary responsibility is to modernize and maintain the PTA's technology efforts, including the following:

  1. Administrator of the PTA Webpage and/or Website
  2. Designer and Administrator of the PTA Facebook Page
  3. Administrator of the PTA Listserves:
  4. Consolidating the Listserves
  5. Maintaining/Updating Listserve membership
  6. Coordinator of "Technology Night"
  7. Other technologies duties as assigned

PTA Committee Chairs

Membership Chairperson: This is an on-going position. This position requires someone who is organized and has basic excel or knowledge of computer applications that will enable the creation of membership lists. This position requires organizing volunteers to manage and sale PTA memberships throughout the year at PTA events.

Book Fair Chairperson: This activity will be conducted in the Fall and Spring. The position requires that the chairperson plan and schedule one or two book fairs a year, to include organizing volunteers for the sales and operation of the book fairs.

Box Tops/Giant Bonus Bucks/ Safeway E-Script/ School store Coordinator: This is an on-going position. The position requires that the chairperson coordinate and plan the grocery store fundraising programs to operate during the school year.

Bulletin Board Coordinator: This is an on-going activity. The position requires someone to be creative and have fun while keeping the PTA hallway bulletin board neat, attractive and exciting with advertisement of upcoming PTA events and information.

Cluster Representative: This is an on-going position. The position requires attending Kennedy Cluster meetings as the school representative and reporting meeting information from the cluster to PTA.

Cultural Arts Chairperson: This is an on-going position. The position requires the planning and scheduling of assemblies for the school. The chairperson is responsible for working within the budget allocated for the assemblies to include attending the MCPS cultural arts showcase.

Directory Coordinator: This activity should be completed by November. The chairperson(s) will coordinate with the office to collect the names and addresses of the students, put together in a booklet, coordinate copying and distribution of the final product.

Fundraising Chairperson: This is an on-going position. The chairperson is responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating fundraising activities for the PTA.

After-School Activities Coordinator: This is an on-going position. The coordinator is responsible for planning and scheduling after school activities for student to include the Mad Science and Foreign Language in Elementary Schools (FLES) programs.

International Festival Chairperson: This is a one day event held in May. The chairperson will be responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating the event to include soliciting and managing volunteers for the event.

Kindergarten Orientation Coordinator: This is a two day event held in May or June. The coordinator will be responsible for arranging volunteers to assist the school with the Kindergarten Orientation and provide information on the school to prospective parents.

Message Board: This is an on-going position. This position requires changing the message board in the front of the school as needed to advertise PTA events.

NAACP Representative: This is an on-going position. This representative attends the NAACP Parent Council’s meeting and reports information to the PTA. The meetings are usually held monthly.

Room Parent Coordinator: This is an on-going position. The coordinator is responsible for coordinating and managing the parent volunteers for each class to include planning and scheduling the various events to include Halloween and Valentine Parties.

School Improvement Committee: This is an on-going position. The committee requires 2 to 3 parent representatives to participate with the teachers/staff and school Principal in the review of information and future planning for progress towards goals.

Spring Carnival Chairperson: This is a one day event usually held in April. Minimum planning involved. Chairperson negotiates contract with KAH to provide “Carnival Day” services to include games, “moon bounces”, cotton candy and popcorn. Also, coordinates parent volunteers to manage the admissions, concessions and games.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week Coordinator: The teacher/staff appreciation week is usually held during May. The coordinator will be responsible for planning and coordinating all activities for the week to include breakfast, lunch and snacks for the teachers/staff and any other gestures of appreciation.

T-Shirt Coordinator: This is an on-going position. The coordinator is responsible for purchasing, inventory, sales of PTA T-Shirts.

Volunteer Social Coordinator: This is a one time activity. The coordinator is responsible for organizing, scheduling, inviting PTA volunteers to the end of year social.

Walk to School Day Coordinator: This is a one time activity. The coordinator is responsible for organizing, scheduling and coordinating parent volunteers for the annual walk to school day.

MSA/Terra Nova Snacks Coordinator: This is a one time activity. The coordinator is responsible for purchasing snacks that students may enjoy during MSA/Terra Nova Testing.

McDonald’s Night Coordinator: This is a one time activity. The coordinator is responsible for planning and scheduling the McDonald’s Nights for the schools.

Volunteer Coordinator: This is an on-going position. The coordinator is responsible for assisting with managing volunteers for various PTA activities.
