JOB TITLE: Alcohol and Drug Prevention & Education Worker (Women)

JOB GRADE/SALARY:£20,520

HOURS: Full time – 35 hours per week,

though part time hours may be considered

This role is open to women only (exempt under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9, Part 1)

MAIN FUNCTION / RESPONSIBILITY:

The Prevention & Education Worker will provide a community based alcohol misuse prevention programme for the people of the local area, in partnership with other statutory, voluntary and community agencies.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

The Alcohol and Drug Prevention & Education Worker reports to the Team Leader.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

  • Assist in development of alcohol and drug misuse prevention strategies in the local Community Health and Care Partnership Area,
  • Encourage participation of local residents, community groups, voluntary and statutory agencies in the development and implementation of alcohol and drug misuse prevention strategies, working to principles of good practice in relation to equality and diversity,
  • Develop and deliver gender specific alcohol and drug prevention and education programmes
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, interactive workshops and training programmes to community groups and other relevant people,
  • Record and evaluate the effectiveness of the alcohol and drug misuse prevention strategies,
  • Promote consistent practice and standards in relation to Alcohol and Drug Prevention and Education practice.

MAIN DUTIES

Assist in development of alcohol and drug misuse prevention strategies in the local area, in accordance with national and local strategies for raising awareness on alcohol and drug issues,

  • Encourage participation of local residents, community groups, voluntary and statutory agencies in the development of alcohol and drug misuse strategies, working to principles of good practice in relation to equality and diversity,
  • Develop relationships with women’s only groups and projects across the city.
  • Deliver gender specific alcohol and drug prevention and education programmes
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, interactive workshops and training programmes to community groups and other relevant people,
  • Update and further develop “current thinking” in the alcohol and drug field and apply this to the preparation of prevention and education programmes,
  • Liaise closely with other statutory, voluntary and community organisations as appropriate in the carrying out of these duties,
  • Record and evaluate the effectiveness of the alcohol misuse strategies, keeping these and other records in accordance with GCA guidelines and procedures,
  • Provide guidance and support as appropriate to other people working in this field
  • Promote and actively encourage working to the core elements as detailed in the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Prevention and Education Model
  • Provide Alcohol and Drug Prevention and Education awareness to vulnerable adults who present with mental health and learning difficulties.
