Girls Beginner (velvet) Costumeis required for all performances. For some dancers your first performance will be Pittsburgh’s spring show, Ceili Mor 2008, Sat., May 3; and Johnstown’s AOHperformance, Sat., June 14. This dress is pictured on our website. It’s also worn for competitions.

Pittsburgh Dancers: Measurements will be taken for new dresses this Monday, January 28. Please plan to stay after class to have your dancer measured by our local seamstress.

Johnstown Dancers: Measurement forms will be available in class. Please contact dancer grandparent, Vicki Bertolino (814-472-5185) to be measured. Forward order and measurement forms to address on order form.

All Dancers: All orders are due by February 11. This includes dancers who’ve out grown first costume. Order forms will be available in class and a $50 deposit is required.

ShovlinAcademy warm-up jacket orders(dancers and parents) must be in no later than Mon., Feb. 7th. Jackets will be available this month in class for sizing along with order forms.

Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held downtown on Sat., March 15, 2008. All dancers (and parents) are invited to participate. Sign-up and further details will follow later. Plan now on what you’ll need to wear as it is hard to find certain cold weather items late in the season. The dress code for everyone marching (parents & friends included) is as follows:

  • Shovlin Academy Warm Up Jacket……………..Order in class: $35 child, $40 adult
  • Solid White Turtleneck………………………….Add layers underneath according to the weather.
  • **Green Headband & Mittens/Gloves………..Change from last year and will have some later for sale in class.
  • Plain Navy blue pants (not dance school warm-ups or nylon)
  • Girls – Solid White Tennis Shoes
  • Boys – Solid Black Shoes
  • Girls – Orange/Navy/Green Parade ScarfAvailable later in class, $5. Not req’d for parents/boys.

Other than our jacket &scarves, some suggestions for where to find these items are: Kohl’s, Sears, Target, Dick’s.

You’re invited…please join us at our Post Parade Party to be held at EpiphanyChurch (banquet room), located at the start of the parade. Come to a continuation of the celebration from Noon to 4pm for a full buffet, live music by our parade musicians and of course lots of dancing. While attending, the parade can still be viewed from EpiphanyChurch! If you plan on staying in town please consider joining us. Buffet includes: salad, chicken, sausage, rigatoni, mac & cheese, hot dogs, vegetables, rolls as well as tea, coffee, sodas and beer. Tickets must be purchased (at class) in advance by Wed., March 5…no exceptions. Adults are $15.00 (this includes beer); all dancers and siblings are $5.00. No charge for under 3yrs. old. The cost for dancers/siblings is reduced and subsidized by the dance school (regular rate is $7.50 for under 12yrs, and $15 for 12 & up). To purchase tickets, use the envelopes on the hand-out table indicating your family name, number of adults and children and enclose payment. Tickets will be delivered to class the following week.

Reminder: Pittsburgh Ceili Mor, our school performance scheduled for Sat., May 3rd at Bethel ParkHigh School auditorium. All dancers are invited to participate. We assume all Pittsburgh dancers will be performing however, if you are not able to be there please advise no later than March 26. Johnstown dancers should let Sheila know if they will be attending no later than March 30.

West Virginia Feis, Sat., April 5, entries are open. Enter solos at figures will be decided later.

A special thank you to all dancers and families…for your kind words in sympathy for the loss of our sister, Patsy, on December 19, 2007. We’ll always miss Patsy but your thoughts and prayers give us comfort. We hope her spirit for enjoying life will prevail in all of us and wish the same for all of you. Wishing you a Happy 2008.
