Our Chalet 2017 Fact Sheet

Description International event for girls aged 13 to 18years who will be a Pathfinder or Ranger at the time of the event.Participants will participate in a Swiss Adventure Session with the opportunity to meet and explore with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from other countries. Participants will have a few days to explore Geneva, Switzerland prior to the Our Chalet session.

Where

This event will take place at Our Chalet, Adelboden, Switzerland with a short stay in Geneva enroute to Our Chalet.

When

• August 22 – September 2, 2017

• Participants will spend two nights in Geneva, with the opportunity to participate in a tour(s).

• Session at Our Chalet will be August 25 – September 2, 2017

Who

• Eight (8) girls aged 13 - 18 years who are Pathfinders or Rangers at the time of the event.

• Two (2) Guiders

Qualifications

• Guiders and all girls must be registered members of Guiding in Nova Scotia.

• Both Guiders must have a current Police Record Check and Safe Guide training.

• Both Guiders must have Standard First Aidat least six months prior to the event.

Costs

Cost will be approximately $4000/ participant–estimated cost for airfare, Our Chalet session fee, accommodations & tours in Geneva.

·  Girl participants will receive a subsidy of $1000 from Girl Guides of Canada – Nova Scotia Council.

·  Adult participants will receive $2250 subsidyfrom Girl Guides of Canada – Nova Scotia Council.

Participants will be expected to personally contribute 10% of the total participant cost. The remaining portion may be fundraised.Cookie sales are encouraged as the main fundraiser for this event. A minimum of 25% of fundraising must come from cookie sales. Participants mayarrange forspecial fundraising cookiesthroughthe provincial office and would earn $32.75 for each case sold.

Other Costs

Other personal costs Girls and Guiders are responsible for:

·  Travel to and from local airport enroute meals

·  Personal spending money and souvenirs

·  Kit list requirements

·  Required immunizations

·  Passport fees

Application Process

Applicants are to submit electronically to the Provincial International Adviser at by no later than July 31st, 2016.

·  a completed Application Form (include the links on the Provincial Site)

·  Two references (one guiding & one non-guiding) (include the links on the Provincial Site) should be submitted directly to the Provincial International Adviser.
