Gippsland Clinical Councils Orientation Day

Gippsland PHN hosted the first joint meeting of the newly formed sub-regional Clinical Councils during an all-day orientation session held 11 February in Sale.

Coming together with a common goal of representing the views of Gippsland Health Practitioners from their unique local perspectives, the three sub-committees participated in a hands-on strategic planning exercise to determine health needs and to identify their work plan priorities for the next year.

“The insights Gippsland PHN already gained from the exercise is indicative of the high calibre of Council members selected and we are convinced Gippsland will ultimately reap the benefits of the considered input shared with such commitment, Nola Maxfield, Gippsland PHN Board Chair said.

“I do look forward to each of the member’s continued input in future and getting a more in-depth understanding of each of the region’s specific needs”, she continued.

“This is the first time the individual members of the Clinical Councils came together around the table and we are delighted with the results. The individual Councils knuckled down and worked well together creating the focussed conversations that had to happen”, Marianne Shearer, CEO Gippsland PHN said.

The Clinical Councils will be meeting on a quarterly basis as major contributors to advise and support the Gippsland PHN Board and the Gippsland PHN team who is tasked with driving local health system improvements.

A key component of Gippsland PHN governance is working consultatively with the three Clinical Councils located across the local government areas of Gippsland (Bass Coast & South Gippsland, Wellington & East Gippsland, and Latrobe & Baw Baw) and the soon to be established Community Advisory Committee to lead the way in improving both health outcomes and the health care experience for everyone in Gippsland.

The three sub-regional Clinical Councils and their Chairs are:

• Dr Trevor Andrews – Bass Coast & South Gippsland Clinical Council

• Dr Peter Stevens – Wellington & East Gippsland Clinical Council

• Dr Letitia Clark – Latrobe & Baw Baw Clinical Council.
