German Oldenburg’s lead the US Young Horse Rankings!

In 2012, the German Oldenburg Verband enjoyed a fantastic year of Young Dressage Horse competition in North America with OHBS and GOV horses sweeping the selection trials and finals. 2013 seems poised to repeat this success as the Selection Trials and Rankings list heats up, German Oldenburg’s are once again claiming top spot. Currently seven of the top ten Six Year Olds in the country are German Oldenburgs!!!

Leading the 2013 Markel/USEF National Young Horse Six Year Old list is the lovely St.Pr.A. Elfenfeuer by Florencio I out of St.Pr.St. Elfensonne by Sion/Figaro. Bred in Germany by Ewald Grotelueschen, she hails from the successful Elfi dam line. Discovered at the 2010 Winter Mixed Sales Auction in Vechta, under her owner Alice Targan this talented mare won the National Five Year Old Championship in 2012. The mare seems poised to repeat this success again leading the 2013 rankings with an impressive 8.38.

Sitting in third place is the talented Don Fredo HD by Don Frederico out of Kordula by Pik Bube/Waidmannsheil. Bred in Germany by Ferdinand Sanladerer the gelding is owned by Greystone Equestrian LLC and ridden by Heidi Degele. Don Fredo HD was also discovered at Vechta and is a double Auction graduate, selling originally as a foal at the 2007 Elite Foal Auction then again at the 2011 Spring Elite Auction to NA. His dam Kordula also produced the successful Advanced dressage horse Rubina 152 by Rubirando.

In fifth place is Sir Savoy 3 by Sir Donnerhall I out of Riley by Rosenkavalier/Don Primero. Bred in Germany by Bernd Lauderbach, the elegant gelding owned by Barry Giske and ridden by Kevin Kohmann enjoyed success in FL this winter. One full sister to Sir Savoy 3 sold at the 2012 Summer Mixed Sales and another achieved her State Premium Status.

In sixth place is Scholastica by Sir Donnerhall I out of Loni by Lord Sinclair/Argentinus. Bred in Germany by Manfred Langelueddecke, the pretty mare is owned and ridden by Amy Swerdin of Wellington FL. Yet another talent discovered at Vechta, Scholastica was found at the 2011 Spring Elite Auction by Amy and has since enjoyed great competition success in NA. In addition to being a great sport horses while in Germany the amre also produced a Fohlenprämie by Bordeaux in 2010. Scholastica is a full sister to the Licensed stallion Lux-Dressage Sonnenreiter OLD who sold to Luxemburg at the 2009 Spring Elite Auction for an impressive 120,000 Euros.

In seventh place is St.Pr.A. Sunshine Tour by Sir Donnerhall I out of Elite-St. History by Alabaster/Landadel. Bred in Germany by Brigette Zilling, this lovely mare is owned and ridden by Jane Karol. Also discovered at the 2011 Fall Elite Auction in Vechta by Jane the mare has now made NA home. She obtained her States Premium Candidate title at Vechta in 2011 to join her half sister by Sandro Hit who is also a titled mare and Auction graduate.

In eighth place is Sambastein by Samarant out of Granada by Rubinstein I/Grannus. Bred in Germany by Ann Ruttenn, the talented gelding’s grand-dam Verb.Pr.St. Grandezza also produced Guido Klatte’s successful S-Level Jumper Lexus 21Lafitte, in addition to his dam Granada. Sambastein is ridden and owned by Geena Sturzebecher.

In tenth place is Lysias by Licotus out of Rabea by Royal Diamond/Tin Rocco. Bred in Germany by Steffi Becker, the gelding’s great-grand dam St.Pr.St. Reinolde produced the licensed Grand Prix dressage stallion Torero by Tin Rocco. Lysias is ridden and owned bt Stacey Hastings.
