STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®
TAKES OVER THE BMO STAGE
FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

Milwaukee, WI, February 19, 2018 – Get ready to witness the heart-stopping chopping and sawing action once again, as the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® U.S. Championships return to Milwaukee, taking place at the BMO Harris Pavilion during German Fest.

The“Original Extreme Sport” will feature top lumberjacksports athletes competing inthe Men’s, Women’s, and Collegiate U.S. Championships.

The 33-year-old sport, which was established in 1985 features athletes competing in a variety of disciplines which are based on traditional logging skills.

Disciplines include the hot saw, singlebuck, springboard chop, standing block chop, stock saw and the underhand chop.

In 2017 STIHL created the Women’s Division due toa growing fanbase and the influx of more women into the sport. And in 2018 STIHL will for the first time host the Women’s Division Championship. German Fest is thrilled to welcome these fantastic competitors.

Also chopping and sawing their way to the top are the bestcollegiate athletes in the country. The Collegiate Series features athletes from more than 60 schools, with competitors participating in four disciplines (singlebuck, standing block chop, stock saw and underhand chop). The top eight competitors will vie for the collegiate title, which guarantees a spot in the Pro Series in 2019, as well as participation in the 2019 international Rookie Championship where they will compete against amateurs from over 15 countries.

“After much success in 2017, German Fest couldn’t be more delighted and honored to welcome the U.S. Championships for a second year in a row,” said German Fest President Eric Radue, “This year’s Culture Pavilion theme is German Inventions, and it couldn’t be more fitting to have STIHL, a company headquartered in Germany and founded in 1926 by Andreas Stihl who invented the world’s first electric chain saw, bring their competition to one of the largest celebrations of German heritage in North America.”

“Milwaukee was a tremendous host city and venue to hold our Championships last year. We are thrilled to bring our sport back to German Fest in 2018,” said STIHL Corporate Communications Manager Roger Phelps. “We are sure that fans will love seeing this true test of extreme athleticism and physical ability.”

The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Series will take place three consecutive days on the BMO Harris Pavilion stage. Admission to German Fest Milwaukee provides entrance to the competition. 2018 festival hours will be Friday, July 27th from 3pm to midnight, Saturday, July 28th from noon to midnight, and Sunday, July 29th from noon to 9pm.
