First Quarter German Paper

Goal:Write an informative interview with a person who survived the Nazi regime.

Objective:Write interview questions that you would have asked someone who was a survivor of the Holocaust.

Concept:The efforts of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Shoah Foundation to capture video footage of survivor testimony are now widely available on the Internet. You will select one survivor and write ten questions, which you would ask a survivor of the Holocaust.

Task:Select someone whose Holocaust survival story is available as a video on the Internet. Watch the entire video (please find selections at least 5 minutes in length or more). Develop a series of questions that the survivor explain the video, and write each question as if you were interviewing the survivor. Examples of the project are available on the website.

Alternatively, you may choose to write about Marion Blumenthal Lazan, after you have read her book, Four Perfect Pebbles. Your interview questions should lead to answers that are longer than one sentence. Whether you choose Marion Lazan, or another survivor, your interview should provide some depth that explores the strength of the characters involved.

Mechanics:The paper should be written using Calibri or Arial 12-point font. Use MLA style for formatting the resources for each question. If your material comes from the Internet, be sure to include the date and time in which you conducted your search. You do not need a formal front cover, nor do you need any photos embedded in your paper. I recommend using space and a half for your line-spacing.

Style:Unlike most research papers, please write the answers that your survivor would give, in first person. Do not use third person for their answers. (See example.)

Due Date:October 30, 2017

Grading:This paper is worth 50 points. You will receive 5 points for every completed answer.
