Note: Course instructor ethics approval covers a three year period. A course instructor granted permission to provide ethical approval of student research must re-apply after the three year term as expired.

Section C - Lead Course Instructor Agreement

I have examined Georgian College’s Responsible Practice and Ethics Review in Research policy (Procedure Number 2-119) and affirm that, to the best of my knowledge, the student research I will supervise conforms to the policy. I acknowledge that for course instructor approval of student research the methodologies employed by students must be defined as minimal risk. I also acknowledge that participants in student research must be drawn from the general adult population, capable of giving free and informed consent. I acknowledge that the research:

  1. May not include vulnerable subjects such as children and persons who are not legally competent to consent;
  2. Does not involve any personal, sensitive or incriminating topics or questions which could place participants at risk, does not manipulate behaviour of participants beyond the range of “normal” classroom activity or daily life;
  3. Does not involve physically invasive contact with the research participants;
  4. Does not involve deception; and
  5. Does not involve any offers of payment in relation to research participation which exceed the normal range of benefits open to the research participants.

If a student research proposal does not meet the above criteria I will submit the application to the Georgian College Research Ethics Board for review.

I agree to submit a Summary of Course-based Research to the Georgian College Research Ethics Board for review prior to the commencement of any recruitment or data collection.

I also agree to submit a completed Summary of Course-based Research as a final report on research completed in this course.
