Dear Parents and Carers,

You will be aware that we take achievement and examination results very seriously at George Mitchell School. Our staff work tirelessly to make sure your child leaves our school with the best results possible.

Ms Enache, Year 11 Learning Leader, the Tutor team and Mr Marshall, Assistant Head, are working closely with the students to ensure they are ready for the summer. There is a lot of preparation with regard to study skills and college applications at the moment, but it is important to keep learning and revision at the forefront of the students’ minds.

Raising Standards Interventions are continuing this term but there have been some changes to arrangements. Please see the timetable below.

Students may be asked by other teachers to attend intervention or to complete coursework before school or during lunchtime. Staff will provide notes in planners. Students should attend these sessions, but only if they are not already working with another teacher as outlined in this letter.

You can help at home by reminding your child of their need to attend sessions as directed by their teachers. You can also help by asking about the sessions afterwards, asking to see any work done and checking their planner to see what homework they might have been given. It would also help to pin up any letters in a place where you and your child can see them.

Please read the booklet “When the going gets tough …”. There is some valuable guidance to help you and your child through this period.

If you have any queries or questions about these arrangements, please contact the relevant Curriculum Leader. Names and email addresses are on the school website or you can ring the school to speak to them. We value good communication with parents and carers at George Mitchell School.

Yours sincerely,

Ms B Chapple

Deputy Head, Secondary
