GEORGE HAY PARK - PARTY / PICNIC VENUE RULES

Thank you for your enquiry to use George Hay Park as a party venue. The Parkview Residents’ Association’s Greenco works closely with Johannesburg City Parks (JCP) to keep the Park clean, safe and accessible to all. Local residents who wish to use the Park for their children’s birthday parties are welcome, preference is given to paid up PRA members, SafeParkview members and residents who contribute financially towards the upkeep of the park. Please bear in mind that you might share the park with a few other children’s parties. For larger functions – especially where alcohol or any type of commercial activity is included - you must contact JCP directly to hire the park as this is beyond the PRA’s mandate. NO FIRES OR BRAAIS PLEASE.

The PRA doesn’t have amandate to give permission to parents wanting to upscale their children’s partiesto include water slides, paint ball etc. The PRA has a verbal agreement with JCP allowing us to accept donations from residents who hold their children’s parties in the park. These donations pay our park keeper, Onias Khumalo, who keeps the park clean and tidy, as well as other upgrade projects, e.g. painting the park furniture. If the scale and impact of children’s parties increases we could run into trouble and parents may end up paying JCP in arrears for their child’s party.Parents wanting alcohol, marquees, upscale games, music, etc. will need to contact JCP directly, bearing in mind that thehefty feepaid will not go back intoourpark. The end result might be that no parties will be permitted at all.

Your assistance with the following would be appreciated.

·  If you need to drop off a jumping castle, request the key for the vehicular gate in Westmeath Road from the staff in the toilet block. Only this vehicle to be given access and please ensure that the gate is locked again immediately after delivery. People driving in the park are to be careful of children, dogs, trees and the play equipment

·  Provide toilet rolls

·  Remove your litter. Even though the Park is well stocked with bins, left-over food not removed during the weekends is a magnet for dogs and hungry people and can leave a huge mess.

·  Make a donation to the George Hay Park fund. The park keeper is paid three days a week via donations such as yours. He is one of the reasons that the park looks so good! (Please email your EFT to )
