We will cover:This course concentrates on the following topics: similarity, right triangle trigonometry, area, surface area & volume, and circles (Chapters 7 – 12).

  1. Binders

You are required to have a binder, which you must bring to class every day, even test days, I recommend a 1 ½ “ binder. This should be a three-ring binder. In addition, you will need three divider sheets with tabs. (Anyone having difficulty obtaining these supplies should see me.) In this binder you will be required to have the following:

  • Assignment Page – This will be the very first page of the binder and will be supplied by me. On it, you

should record the assignment number, the date of the assignment, the assignments page number or worksheet name, and the date the assignment is due. It should always be up-to-date.

  • Assignments – All assignments for each unit should be kept in this second tabbed section separately and should be labeled “Assignments” (Tab #1). These should also be labeled with the date, chapter number, page numbers, question numbers, and in the order they were assigned. Assignments will also include written work, worksheets, group work, or anything that is graded for points that is not a test or quiz.
  • Notes – All of your notes, whether they are guided hand-out notes or hand written, should go in this third tabbed section, labeled “Notes” (Tab #2). This will make it very easy to locate information when doing homework or studying.
  • Assessments – All graded test, quizzes, and reviews that you get to keep should be placed in a fourth tabbed section of your binder for easy reference and should be labeled ”Assessments” (Tab #3).

Everything you complete in the class should be put in the correct section in the binder. There should be no loose papers in the pockets or work from other classes. During the binder check I will concentrate on the following: an up to date assignment page, complete and legible notes that are labeled and ordered, all assignments in order and completed, and everything, in general, is neat and organized.

  1. Homework

It is important that you do all your assignments and have them in class on time! You will receive full credit (5 points) for an assignment that I collect only if it is complete and all required work is shown. This is not to say that all answers must be correct, but you should try your best on each assignment and correct all incorrect answers when we go over the assignment in class. You will receive no credit (0 points) if an assignment is incomplete or not handed in on the day it is due. Late work will only be accepted for HALF CREDIT (ONLY 50%), unless very special circumstances justify otherwise. You have 2 days to turn in the day’s work if you are absent, and you must complete the work on your own time. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO CHECK THE ASSIGNMENT SHEET AND COMPLETE THE WORK YOU MISSED. I SHOULD NOT BE ASKED FOR THE ASSIGNMENT UNLESS YOU ARE UNABLE TO FIND IT IN THE MAKE-UP WORK AREA.

  1. Quizzes

There will be about 2 quizzes for each unit/chapter. It may or may not be announced and will be counted as a formative assessment (see next page). If you miss the day before a quiz, expect to take the quiz with the class.

  1. Tests

All tests will be announced in advance. If you miss the day before a test, expect to take the test with the class.

***Make-Up Test or Quizzes: If you miss a test or quiz, you must make an appointment with me to take it after school within 2 days of the original test/quiz date.

  1. Grading

Grades will be calculated throughout the grading period according to the following scale:

Summative Assessments = 40%
Formative Assessments = 40%
Final Exam = 20%
+ ______
100% / A = 100 – 93%C = 76-73
A- = 92 – 90C- = 72 – 70
B+ = 89 – 87D+ = 69 - 67
B = 86 – 83D = 66 - 63
B- = 82 – 80D- = 62 - 60
C+ = 79 – 77E = 59 - 0

Summative assessments will be given at the end of each unit, these will consist of your chapter tests and final exam. Formative assessments will be given throughout a unit and will include: assignments, notes, quizzes, etc. There will be a final exam covering all course material at the end of the trimester. The final exam will be worth 20% of your summative assessments.

  1. Extra Credit

Rarely will you have the opportunity to earn extra credit points during the semester. These will be few and far between, so I highly suggest you take advantage of them when they become available. I do not hand out individual extra credit, so do not ask for any, especially at the end of the marking period.

  1. Attendance

I will follow the school’s attendance policy for both absences and tardies, students should refer to the student handbook. Refer to the ‘Homework’, ‘Quizzes’, and ‘Tests’ policies previously mentioned for making up what is missed during an absence.

  1. Rules and Guidelines

***Cell Phone Policy: I will be following the cell phone policy set by the Woodhaven-Brownstown School District, which states, a student can have a cell phone in school, but it may not be on their person at any time during school hours. This means a student can bring their cell phone to school, but must keep it in their locker during all school hours. If a student is seen with a cell phone, it will be confiscated and taken to the office, no exceptions.
