CREATING A CLIMATE GRAPH USING SPREADSHEET SOFTWARE
Follow the easy steps below to create a nifty climate graph using Microsoft Excel. No more messy drawing by hand, no more lousy marks because you lost your ruler and can't draw a straight line. Look sharp, feel sharp, and be sharp. Be the coolest kid in class with your fantastic Excel climate graph!
- Start Microsoft Excel.
ENTERING DATA INTO A CHART
- You are to create four climate graphs from the data provided in the Computer Climate Graphs Template.
MAKING A GRAPH
- Use the cursor and highlight the three rows of information: months, precipitation, and temperature.
- Under the "Insert" menu tab, select “Colum”
-Under the "Chart area" select 2D Column – the first option.
- Your chart should now appear
- Right click on the temperature bars and select “change series chart type”
-Select the first option under line and select “ok”.
-The bars should change to lines.
- Right click on the temperature line and select “Format Data Series”
- Select the “line colour tab” and select “solid line” and change the colour to red
- Select the “marker line style” tab and turn on the “smooth line” option and then select “close”
- Right click on one of the precipitation bars and select “Format Data Series”
-Under the “series options tab” select the button under “plot Series on” that says “Secondary Axis”.
-Under the “series options tab” under “gap width” drag the bar so the percentage is 10%.
-Select the “fill” tab and select the “solid fill” option and change the colour to blue.
-Select the “Border Colour” tab and select the “solid line” option and change the colour to black.
-Select the “Border Styles” tab and select the “width” option and change the width to 1pt.
-Select “close” to close the box.
- Right click on the months and select “Format Axis”
-Under the “Axis Options tab” change the following:
Minor tick mark type: None
Axis Labels: Low
-Under the “Line Colour tab” select No line
-Select “close” to close the box.
- Select the “chart tools” tab at the top of the program above the ribbon.
-Select the “layout tab”
-Select “chart Title” above chart. Change the title to an appropriate title.
- Select the “layout tab”
-Select “Axis titles”
-Select primary horizontal axis title below axis. Give it a title.
- Select the “layout tab”
-Select “Axis titles” and select primary vertical axis title - vertical axis. Give it a title.
- Select the “layout tab”
-Select “Axis titles” and select secondary vertical axis title - vertical axis. Give it a title.
-Select “close”
- Click on the legend and select the “format legend”
-Select “legend options”
-Select “legend position” - “bottom”
-Select “close”
- Put your name on the graph using the “text box” tool.
- Now select the “design tab” under “chart tools” and select “move chart” on the right side and move the chart to a “new sheet” and give it a name “Station A”
- Complete the remainder of the graphs and show them to your teacher.
