Part A - FREE SKATE EVENTS (STARSkate)

Þ  All skaters must be registered in the STARSkate Program. Skaters who have completed the CanSkate program during the season are eligible for these events.

Þ  Skaters who have registered and/or competed at the 2014 Sectional Competition (held in November 2013) must compete in Competitive Events for the remainder of the skating season.

Þ  Skaters may skate up one category.

Þ  All categories may be divided by age

Þ  All categories have the program time listed that will be used for the 2014 qualifying event for Trillium STARSkate (Festival of STARS). Competition organizers may change the program times by 30 seconds to allow skaters to skate up a category.

Þ  Competitive singles test equivalencies* in the events:

§  Juvenile Competitive Singles Test = Junior Silver Free Skating Test

§  Pre-Novice Competitive Singles Test = Senior Silver Free Skating Test

§  Novice, Junior or Senior Competitive Singles Test = Gold Free Skating Test

NOTE: Please check Skate Canada website for updates to well balanced program requirements from Pre-Preliminary to Gold.

PRE-PRELIMINARY FREE SKATE

TEST REQUIREMENTS: May have passed a Skate Canada test, but must not have passed the complete Preliminary Free Skate Test.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT: One free program of 1.5 minutes in length (+ / - 10 seconds)

1.  Maximum six jump elements

a.  No jump higher than a single Lutz

b.  Must include:

·  at least one waltz jump

·  at least one single loop jump; not in combination, not in sequence

c.  Maximum two combinations or sequences. Jump combinations may contain no more than two jumps.

d.  No jump included more than twice and if a jump is repeated it must be in combination or sequence.

2.  Maximum two spins

a.  No flying spins permitted

b.  One upright spin with backward entry (backspin) – no change of foot

c.  Maximum one may be a combination spin, no change of foot

3.  Maximum one sequence of two forward spirals.

PRELIMINARY FREE SKATE

TEST REQUIREMENTS: May have passed the Preliminary Free Skate test but no higher complete free skate test.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT: One free program of 1.5 minutes in length (+/- 10 seconds)

1.  Maximum six jump elements

a.  All single jumps permitted and maximum one double jump which may be a Double Salchow or Double Toe Loop

b.  Must include:

·  At least one Axel type jump (waltz or single Axel)

·  At least one single loop + single loop jump combination (1Lo + 1Lo + C)

c.  Maximum two combinations or sequences. Jump combinations may contain no more than two jumps.

d.  No jump included more than twice and if a jump is repeated it must be in combination or sequence. The double jump may not be repeated.

2.  Maximum of two spins

a.  One upright spin with backward entry (back spin) – no change of foot, no flying entry

b.  One spin of any nature, which must include at least one of camel or sit position

c.  Maximum one spin may be a flying spin

3.  Maximum one sequence of two forward spirals.

JUNIOR BRONZE FREE SKATE

TEST REQUIREMENTS: May have passed the Junior Bronze Free Skate test but no higher complete free skate test.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT: One free program of 2.0 minutes in length (+/- 10 seconds)

1.  Maximum six jump elements

a. All single jumps permitted and maximum two double jumps that may be up to and including double loop.

b. Must include at least one Axel type jump (waltz or single Axel)

c. Maximum two combinations or sequences. Jump combinations may contain no more than two jumps.

d. No jump included more than twice. Repeated jumps must be in combo or sequence. The double jumps may not

be repeated.

2.  Maximum of three spins. All spins shall be called no higher than Level B.

a.  One spin must be a combination with all three basic positions, change of foot mandatory.

b.  One spin must be a flying spin

c.  One spin of any nature

3.  Maximum one step sequence or spiral sequence. All step/spiral sequences shall be called no higher than Level B.

Note: The first step or spiral sequence included in the program which meets the minimum requirements to be

identified will be counted.

SENIOR BRONZE FREE SKATE

TEST REQUIREMENTS: May have passed the Senior Bronze Free Skate test but no higher complete free skate test.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT: One free program of 2.5 minutes in length (+/- 10 seconds)

1.  Maximum six jump elements

a.  All single and double jumps permitted except double Axel

b.  Must include at least one Axel type jump (waltz or single Axel)

c.  Maximum three combinations or sequences. Jump combinations may include no more than two jumps.

d.  No jump included more than twice. Repeated jumps must be in combo or sequence.

2.  Maximum of three spins. All spins shall be called no higher than Level B.

a.  One spin must be a combination (change of foot mandatory)

b.  One Spin must be a flying spin in one position with no change of foot.

c.  One spin of any nature

3.  Maximum one step sequence or spiral sequence. All step/spiral sequences shall be called no higher than Level B.

Note: The first step or spiral sequence included in the program which meets the minimum requirements to be

identified will be counted.

JUNIOR SILVER FREE SKATE

TEST REQUIREMENTS: May have passed the Junior Silver Free Skate test but no higher complete free skate test.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT: One free program of 3.0 minutes in length (+/- 10 seconds)

1.  Maximum six jump elements.

a.  All jumps permitted

b.  Must include at least one Axel type jump (waltz or Axel type)

c.  Maximum three combinations or sequences. Jump combinations may contain no more than two jumps.

d.  No jump included more than twice. Repeated jumps must be in combo or sequence.

identified will be counted.

GOLD FREE SKATE

TEST REQUIREMENTS: May have passed the Gold Free Skate test

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT:

§  One free program of 3.5 minutes in length (+/- 10 seconds) – Women

§  One free program of 4.0 minutes in length (+/- 10 seconds) – Men

1.  Maximum six (women) / seven (men) jump elements.

ii)  All jumps permitted

iii)  Must include at least one Axel type jump (waltz or Axel type)

iv)  Maximum three combinations or sequences. Jump combinations may contain no more than two jumps.

v)  No jump included more than twice. Repeated jumps must be in combination or sequence.

Note: One additional jump may be included if it is an attempted double Axel or any attempted triple.

2.  Maximum three spins

a.  One spin must be a combination (change of foot mandatory)

b.  One spin must be a flying spin in one position with no change of foot.

c.  One spin of any nature

3.  Maximum one step sequence or spiral sequence

Note: The first step or spiral sequence included in the program which meets the minimum requirements to be

identified will be counted.

OPEN FREE SKATE

Open to all skaters who have registered and/or competed at the 2014 Sectional qualifying event or skaters who have passed their Gold Free Skate Test.

Part B- SKATING SKILLS EVENTS

Þ  This event is open to any registered Skate Canada member who meets the test prerequisite for the event.

PRE-PRELIMINARY SKATING SKILLS

TEST REQUIREMENTS: Must not have passed the Preliminary Skating Skills test.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT

§  Preliminary Waltzing Threes

§  Forward Preliminary Circles – draw for one foot and edge

PRELIMINARY SKATING SKILLS

TEST REQUIREMENTS: Must have passed the Preliminary Skating Skills test, but not the Junior Bronze Skating Skills test.

JUNIOR BRONZE SKATING SKILLS

SENIOR SILVER SKATING SKILLS

TEST REQUIREMENTS: Must have passed the Senior Silver Skating Skills test but not the Gold Skating Skills test.

§  Multi-Circle Double Threes and Mohawks

GOLD SKATING SKILLS

TEST REQUIREMENTS: Must have passed the Gold Skating Skills test.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT

§  One skating skills exercise shall be skated from the Gold test (drawn)

§  Gold creative (see creative skating skill section for requirements)

NOTE: Musicality/pacing is no longer assessed in tests or standard skating skills exercises in competition. No music will be played. The exception to this is for Creative Skating Skills events where music will still be used and musicality assessed.

CREATIVE SKATING SKILLS

DURATION: not to exceed two minutes

MUSIC TEMPO: minimum 112 beats per minute

MUSIC: Skater’s choice

§  May be vocal

§  May be a selection from the skating skills program music

§  Music must have a rhythmic beat

§  Two or three selections of music may be used

CREATIVE SKATING SKILLS Well Balanced Program Requirements

*This step sequence must include a series of three or more loops. / *Program must include one circular step sequence and one serpentine step sequence.
*The skater must choose one of the circular or serpentine to be predominantly field moves.
*The other of the circular or serpentine (that which is not field moves) must have a series of required turns (depending on the level) as follows:
BRONZE: multiple three-turns and brackets.
SILVER/GOLD: counter and rocker turns.
Other turns may be included. Clean edges and turns will be rewarded.
Silver Creative
Skating Skill / 2.0 minutes (maximum) / *Program must include one straight-line step sequence
*This step sequence must include two twizzles on one foot with up to one step in between, no stop(s) allowed before and/or between twizzles.
Gold Creative
Skating Skill / 2.0 minutes (maximum)

Part C - INTERPRETIVE EVENTS

Þ  This event is open to all skaters who meet the test prerequisite for the event.

Þ  For the marking of this event, please refer to the 2013-14 Skate Canada STARSkate Technical Package

PRE- INTRODUCTORY INTERPRETIVE SINGLES

TEST REQUIREMENTS: Must not have passed any Skate Canada Interpretive Singles Skating test.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT: One Interpretive program of 2:00 maximum in length.

INTRODUCTORY INTERPRETIVE SINGLES

TEST REQUIREMENTS: Must have passed the Introductory Interpretive Singles test but no higher.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT: One Interpretive program of 2:00 maximum in length.

BRONZE INTERPRETIVE SINGLES

TEST REQUIREMENTS: Must have passed the Bronze Interpretive Singles test but no higher.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT: One Interpretive program of 3:00 maximum in length.

SILVER INTERPRETIVE SINGLES

TEST REQUIREMENTS: Must have passed the Silver Interpretive Singles test but no higher.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT: One Interpretive program of 3:00 maximum in length..

GOLD INTERPRETIVE SINGLES

TEST REQUIREMENTS: Must have passed the Gold Interpretive Singles test

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT: One Interpretive program of 3:00 maximum in length.


Part D- TRIATHLON EVENTS

Entrants must register to compete in the highest Triathlon level that their test qualifications qualify them for. If a skater meets the test requirements for any two disciplines they must compete at that level. For example: a skater who has passed the Senior Silver Skating Skills, Bronze Interpretive and Senior Silver Free Skate must compete in the Silver Triathlon and cannot skate in Bronze Triathlon.
