Job Title: Programme Officer - Livelihoods

/ Reports to: Cluster Team Leader & Programme Manager-Livelihoods / Location: Bajhang
Objective of the Job:To implement UKAID funded program “Increasing the income of poor farmers, landless, youth, single women, People with Disabilities, and People Living with HIV, by creating employment opportunities in four rural communities of Nepal”and BWOT-EED funded “Developing Resilient Food Secure Communities” or other projects as directed by the Team Leader – Livelihoods.

Qualification & Experience

  • Be responsible for implementing approved project plans and budget, and for reporting in accordance to the donors’ guidelines, and writing case stories concerning the project beneficiaries.
  • Draft annual plans and budgets for the cluster based project work
  • Ensure proper monitoring of project activities
  • Assist UMN Good Governance team with organizational and technical assessment, to gauge partners’ needs and formulate plans to address the identified current needs and future potential
  • Work with Bajhang cluster team and its partners in livelihoods area providing technical guidance and advice particularly in helping the target communities in the agriculture sector.
  • Plan and deliver relevant trainings on livelihoods, including food security.
  • Work to ensure knowledge and experiences in food security are shared with other partners in the cluster area, and that indigenous knowledge and good practices at the local level are captured and well documented.
  • Network, build, and maintain relationships in cluster level with other organisations in the area of livelihoods.
  • Take responsibility for the regular follow up and monitoring of the progress of work among the partners.
  • Together with other cluster team members, gather information of organisations in cluster location to explore the possibility of working together.
  • Seek to gain knowledge and skills for his/her own development.

  • Contribute to decision making as a member of the Cluster Team
  • Development of Annual Plan for partners’ Capacity Building in his/her area of geographic or technical responsibility

  • Bachelor’sdegree in Agriculture with at least two years of relevant working experiences
  • Sound knowledge on food security issues in Nepal particularly in Mid and Far Western region
  • Working experiences on sub-sector analysis, value chain analysis, market mapping and rural entrepreneurship development.
  • Experience in promotion of income generating activities i.e. fresh vegetable production, fisheries, diary and other off farm employment
  • Knowledge on climate change adaptation, Livelihood centered disaster risk reduction and appropriate agriculture technology will have added advantage
