Generate is committed to supporting those with barriers related to a disability, long term health condition to retain employment, independence and greater inclusion in society, and we are currently seeking to recruit Employment Support Staff

Job title:Employment Support Workers.

Reports to: Access to Work Manager

Salary: £12.08 per hour

Hours:Various

Location:Various throughout London and surrounding areas.

Introduction to Generate

Generate has been creating opportunities and offering support to people with a learning disability since 1972. We are committed to improving the lives of people with a learning disability by supporting and encouraging them in a creative way to access opportunities in their communities, take their place as citizens and reduce their reliance on services.

Generate’s Access to Work service

Generate manage a team of Employment Support Workers based at their respective client’s place of work. Our client base is very diverse and reflects a wide range of professions and organisations. Access to Work is a scheme run by Jobcentre plus which provides advice and practical support for disabled people in or about to start work.

Main purpose of job

To supportpeople with a range of disabilities such as visual impairment, hearing impairment, physical disability and a learning disability, to retain employment and succeed within their job role by a number of employment support interventions.

Detailed Responsibilities and Duties

Duties will include but are not limited to:-

  • To be aware of our client’s disabilities and how that disability may impact them upon fulfilling their desire to work
  • To enable and empower our client in their workplace
  • To work in a supportive way that allows the client to carry out their work duties to the best of their ability.
  • To communicate clearly and concisely at all times, giving precise and accurate information.
  • To support client in administrative duties for which the client may not be able to accomplish himself for reasons relating to his multiple disabilities.
  • To be flexible and resilient with our client in ensuring that boundaries are observed, and that tasks requested, are permitted under the Access to Work funding programme.
  • To be respectful of our client and their work place.
  • To respect confidentiality at all times.

Good understanding of the Social Model of Disability and how to apply this to role when working with clients.
Demonstrable experience of, and understanding of empowering and enabling disabled people / Interview
Good knowledge about current employment trends and opportunities for disabled people / Application and interview
Experience of engaging disabled people in Job coaching and delivery of positive outcomes / Application and interview
Having a good understanding of the barriers that impede and disadvantage disabled people in the job market and all throughout life / Application and interview
Basic knowledge of Job coaching tools, and models used to motivate and enthuse disabled people to achieve in the workplace / Interview
Skills and abilities / Sound organisational and problem-solving skills. / Application and interview
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills / Interview
Ability to plan and deliver workplace support and high quality programmes of structured Job coaching, based on the needs of the disabled person where appropriate. / Application and interview
