Project Title: Promotion of cottage industries in both urban and rural areas

Approved Budget: US$ 5,013,000.00

The Iraq Strategic Review Board and the United Nations Development Group Iraq Trust Fund Steering Committee have approved under Cluster C5 the Project Number FB/IRQ/04/001 for the amount of US$ 5,013,000.00 for the promotion of cottage industries in both urban and rural areas in the lower south of Iraq. This project is jointly implemented by UNIDO and FAO. It aims at addressing food security and poverty alleviation by increasing household incomes of vulnerable groups through introducing them, particularly women and women headed households, to small-scale income generating cottage activities.

Procurement of services and goods by UNIDO:

To implement this project activities, the UNIDO will procure various goods and services, including: (i) services for training and skills development in the non-food sectors; and (ii) purchase of equipment both for training and production purposes:

  • Metal work/mechanical workshop equipment: (machine tools, welding equipment, hand tools, accessories and consumables, etc.)
  • Wood work equipment: (machine tools, hand tools, accessories and consumables, etc.)
  • Textile equipment: (treadle type sewing machines, electric sewing machines, industrial sewing machines, sewing tables, spinning equipment, knitting machines, accessories, etc.).
  • Additional equipment: (diesel generators, computers, photocopiers, etc.)

Procurement of the various works, goods and services financed by the project will be conducted in accordance with the procedures of the UNIDO and its applicable guidelines for Procurement andConsulting Services to be found on its web site:

Specific procurement notices, and/or other procurement procedures will be announced as they become available, at the UNIDO web site and/or the UNDG Iraq Trust Fund section of IRFFI website ( and/or other appropriate means.

Companies interested in the provision of the above mentioned works, goods and services are requested to submit Expression of Interest to UNIDO, referring to UNIDO Project: FB/IRQ/04/001.

The following documents and information shall be submitted along with the expression of interest:

  • brief description of the company, including its structure and the number of employees
  • a copy of the original registration document;
  • reference list of major clients and similar projects executed in the last 5 years
  • financial status including income statements, balance sheets, turnover for the last three years

Procurement of services and goods by FAO:

To implement the FAO part of the project (food processing related activities), the FAO will procure various works, goods and services itemized below:

  • Goods:Various cottage scale food processing equipment and consumables in small scale processing of milk, fruits, vegetables, grains, cereals, oil seeds and dates.
  • Services: Training of trainers in small-scale food processing; small to medium scale design and/or construction activities.
