General Music Persuasive Essay for 7th Grade

Objective: You must write a persuasive essay on one of the topics listed below.

1. Situation: The school board is considering removing music programs from your school.

Directions: Think about whether or not your school should have music programs and why.

Prompt: Now write to persuade your school board to agree with your opinion.

2. Situation:Your school is considering requiring all students to learn to play a musical instrument. According to the Principal, research shows that learning to play a musical instrument improves student learning.

Directions: Think about the Principal’s claim that requiring students to learn to play a musical instrument would benefit students.

Prompt: Write an essay supporting or opposing the claim that requiring students to learn to play a musical instrument would benefit students.

3. Situation: Your music teacher wants to plan an unforgettable yet educational, field trip to learn about music.

Directions: Think about a field trip destination that would interest young music students and why.

Prompt: Write to convince your music teacher that your desired field trip destination would be the best choice.

Requirements:

  • Your essay must be a minimum of five paragraphs.
  • You must follow the monster outline and any traits of writing techniques taught in your English class.
  • Your essay must have at least two objective facts in your essay.
  • Your final draft must be typed.

Tips for writing a great essay !!!

  • Choose your topic carefully.
  • Write a strong thesis. According to the American Heritage Dictionary, a thesis is “A position maintained by argument.” A thesis is not a fact. For example “Music is a good subject to learn.” (Weak Thesis) “Research has shown that students who study music do better in every other subject.” (Strong Thesis)
  • Objective facts can be defined as “statements that are uninfluenced by emotion or personal prejudice and/or having actual existence.” Make sure you have facts in your essay.
  • Please remember to proofread your essay. Make sure your reader can understand what you are saying.
  • Hand in your essay on time. Remember, if you hand your essay in early you will be rewarded.
  • If you need help with your essay, please come and see me after school as soon as possible.
  • Most importantly, have fun writing your essay.
