Committee Reports:

Board – Mark Morgan reported Harvey Howard had resigned from the board. He and his wife, Mary, have purchased a new business venture, a children’s gym in Cherry Hill, which will be demanding his time. Harvey Howard had been elected to fill the remainder Jeanette Habina’s three year term. These leaves two (2) Board positions open. We will fill these positions in our December election.

By-Laws – John Ginley reported the committee will meet to resolve some open issues in January.

Community Affairs – Harry Koons reported Green Sky Blue Earth had opened and David’s had closed. Akira is expanding into where RE/MAX used to be. Bedazzled is moving into where the paint store was. The Pie Lady hopes to be open by Halloween.

Ethics – John Ginley has moved to Vice Chair, since the new bylaws call for a non-board member to Chair this committee. Anyone interested in chairing this committee should contact him.

Marketing – Jay Winkler reported the Co-Op ad for Autumn in Moorestown is in the Sun today. AIM ads ran in the Sun and the BCTimes To Go supplement on Friday. The Halloween Parade poster is done and distributed thanks to Bill Wares. The same design will go to the schools in a flyer version.

Membership – Brian Cooper reported we have 200+ members and directories are available.

Nominations- John Ginley has stepped up from Vice Chair to Chair since Harvey resigned. He is taking nominations for these open positions: Social, Chair and Vice Chair; Sponsorship, Vice Chair; Candlelight Night, Chair, Easter Egg Hunt, Vice Chair, Moorestown Day, Chair and Vice Chair. He noted we have all officer and two board positions open for 2009. He encouraged members to get involved and to get nominations to him or his committee through October 31, to be presented to the board and the membership in November and voted on in December.

Scholarship – Kathy Logue noted we completed our first annual scholarships this year, with a process that worked pretty smoothly. She asked that the number of scholarships and/or total dollars be increased next year. This will be considered as a part of the budget process.

Social – Chair and Vice Chair positions are open. We will promote member’s open house events.

Event Committees:.

Autumn in Moorestown (10-11-08) – Gina Zegel, Vice Chair, introduced Mike Cashan of Lakes Corvette who runs the Car Show part of this event. He offered to distribute our MBA bags to his members at the show. We will give him enough for his members and distribute the rest at our MBA tent. She reported of 94 slots, 78 are filled. She distributed a sign up sheet for volunteers in the morning for set up and afternoon for clean up. We also need help with trash collection through out the day. Helen Davies-Miramontes is working on entertainment. Julia Wittenberg is in charge of logistics, police and trash. We will have two 10 x 10 tents next to each other for our food tent and an MBA tent with our banners attached for the MBA and sponsors. Volunteers are needed to man the MBA tent.

Halloween Parade (10-25-08) – Brian Cooper said we will have the parade on Main Street and a bonfire with ghost stories and a DJ at Stokes Hill. This is our 4th year and we have expanded the event with help from our sponsors. The posters look great and flyers will be distributed. We need judges and help filling the 500 bags with candy and sponsor brochures. The Mall has donated Gift Cards for prizes and will be listed on the flyers.

Candlelight Night (11-7-08) – Harry Koons is Interim Chair with Brian Cooper as Vice Chair. Entertainment and plans are underway.

Easter Egg Hunt (04-09-08) – Bill Wares is Chair and a Vice Chair is needed.

Moorestown Day (2009) – Chair & Vice Chair positions are open.

Mayor’s Report: Mayor Aberant announced council has not stopped Fios and they will be sending a resolution to Verizon asking them to come to Moorestown. Conservation and SRI ordinances were prepared by Tom Ford and passed by council in accordance with the Master Plan review. A Pay to Play resolution was introduced and a new Historic Preservation ordinance will be introduced 10-27.

New Business:

Dave Schill introduced the Moorestown Improvement Association’s new project, “Windows on Main Street”. They will recycle old Moorestown windows by having artists embellish them; merchants display them and auction them off as in the Nipper project. This will bring exposure to the artists, the merchants and the town. The proceeds will be donated to the Community House for needed renovations. Mark Morgan thanked him for bringing the project to us and asked him to keep us informed.

Hala Al-Shawaf reminded member the last Art Walk of the year is this Friday from 5-9 PM.

Mark Hines noted he had placed voter registration forms and absentee ballot applications on all the tables. Voter registration forms are due by next Tuesday and the absentee ballot applications deadline is 10-28. A member said he had applied for and received an absentee ballot because he wasn’t sure if he was going to be in town on election day. He asked if he is in town, can he still vote at the polls. Kathy Logue informed he cannot vote at the polls, he must vote by absentee ballot, since his name in the voter books would be marked absentee ballot.
