General Manager – Bendigo Tennis Complex
Position Description
Responsible to:Board of Management
Status:Full-time, on-going (38 hours per week)
Commencement Date:As soon as available
Salary:Negotiable based on experience and skills (Indicative Range: $70,000 to $85,000)
Organisation Overview
The Bendigo Tennis Association (BTA) holds the management rights to the recently redeveloped Bendigo Tennis Centre (26 Hardcourts) and Bendigo Lawn Court Centre (16 Grass courts) to provide social, development and competitive playing opportunities for players and members in the region. It is one of the largest providers of major tennisevents in Regional Australia. The Bendigo TennisComplexincorporates 26 synthetic hardcourts (4 International size and 400+ seat grandstand) as well as a function centre, café and Pro Shop. The centre hosts events of local, regional, State, National and International significance.
The position of General Managerhas responsibility for the operations of the centre, the growth in its utilization across all areas, and its ultimate profitability which is enhanced by fundraising and sponsorships.
The role reports directly to the Board of Management and oversees all BTA staff.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Building and development of tennis competitions that will achieve maximum utilisation of the Nolan Street complex (facility), growth of participation and attainment of financial goals
- Establishment of strong and healthy relationships with existing and potential stakeholders including local schools, club/s, local government, sponsors and all other key stakeholders including Tennis Australia
- Building the profile of tennis, the facility and its programs within the community
- Effective financial management and control over all centre operations
- The delivery of excellent customer service
- Provision of sound human resource management.
Facility Utilisation, Programs and Competitions
- Ensure the facility is offering the best programs and services for the wider community
- Develop innovative, viable and efficient promotions and marketing concepts and campaigns that deliver growth and an increased net return
- Provide best practice competitions management
- Maintain an accurate and up to date calendar of events and booking system.
Facility Maintenance
- Organise and liaise with all maintenance and cleaning suppliers to maintain the facilities to a high standard seeking approval for any major repairs or upgrades
- Comply with all risk management policies and procedures
- Keep all required records up to date
- Continually monitor the condition of all equipment and ensure that it is in sound and safe working condition
Financial Management
- Ensure that financial controls for all income and expenditure items are instigated, monitored and reviewed
- Ensure the completion of financial reports in a timely manner
- Ensure that all employees are paid correctly for hours worked as recorded and authorised and that all employment related records are maintained.
Staffing and Management
- Management of all staff and volunteers of the Centre including recruitment, induction, performance management, coaching and discipline.
- Management of OH&S requirements for all staff
- Monitor and arrange staff rosters
- Maintenance and preparation of relevant employee documentation and files.
Customer Orientation
- Promote the ideals of excellence and responsiveness in value added customer service as being the goal and responsibility of every employee.
Business Planning
- Be an active participant in the Centre’s strategic and business planning process.
External Relationships
- Develop productive relationships with local government departments and agencies
- Develop productive relationships with the various clubs and associations affiliated with the BTA
Key Selection Criteria
- Minimum of3 years management experience in a recreation, hospitality, business or retail environment including direct experience in profit and loss management, revenue generation and people management
- Ability to work a full-time flexible schedule that meets the needs of the business
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication, liaison, negotiation, conflict resolution and active listening
- Proven record of Initiative and self-motivation
