GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY FOR THE ALL APPLICANTS

-The Citizenship office cannot check documentation in advance.

-Documents must be submitted in person by applicants resident only in this jurisdiction (link), on the day of the appointment.This consulate general has not granted any exclusive authorizations to submit and/or complete paperwork on behalf of an applicant to any intermediaries.

-The Citizenship Department receives only by appointment. This service is handled by Abtran ( by calling Debit/Credit Card: 1-800-686-4446 at the cost of $2.49 per minute. -Due to the huge workload and number of e-mail messages, we will not answer questions of general nature that are already covered by this website and by the telephone service provided by Abtran.

-Each applicant over 18 years of age must indicate its own email address. We cannot accept the email address of a third party (family member, agency, translator, attorney, etc)

-Please do not ask for an update on the status of your application: if any relevant fact concerning your application should become evident, you will be notified as soon as your turn comes. There is therefore no need to check on the application. However,do inform us in writing if your contact details (address, telephone, email address, etc.) have changed.

-Once all the proper documents have been submitted, this Office will review it and forward them to Italy for registration. The Consulate will inform the applicant about the positive conclusion of the procedure by official letter. This will entitle the applicant to apply for an Italian passport.

-If you are married and you have children under the legal age (under 18), you must submit TO THE VITAL RECORDS OFFICEyour marriage certificate (license and certificate, in certified copy and legalized with the "Apostille" of the Secretary of State) along with a copy of your spouse's birth certificate and certified copy of birth certificate/s, legalized with theApostille of the Secretary of State. FEE

Effective July 8th, 2014, applications for the recognition of the Italian citizenship are subject to the PAYMENT OF A FEE OF 300,00 EURO equivalent to USD in accordance to the exchange rate posted in this web site Tariffe: consult the right hand list of references.

The fee is subject to change depending on the exchange rate.

We DO NOT accept the bank daily exchange rates.

Only US Dollars are accepted and the payment must be paid through MONEY ORDER to the “Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles” the same day of the appointment.
The application fee is non refundable, regardless of the outcome of the petition.
THE FEE SHALL APPLYTO:

-citizenship Jure Sanguinis (by descent):descendants of Italian citizens over 18

-Jure Matrimonii: Female spouses of Italian citizens who got married before April 27th, 1983.
