General Goals and Objectives

Science

This year, we will focus on Earth Science. This includes Getting Ready For Science, Earth, Moon and Beyond, Weather and the Water Cycle, Earth’s Oceans, Energy and Ecosystems, Using Resources, the Rock Cycle, and the Properties of Matter. We will conduct experiments to enhance understanding of the material.

Math

This year, we will focus on Operations and Algebraic Thinking, Number and Operation in Base Ten, Number and Operations – Fractions, Measurement and Data, and Geometry. We will concentrate in the areas of multiplication and fractions.

Academic Honesty

It is expected that any assigned independent work completed for our classes is a product of your own mind and effort. If you give another student answers to a question or take answers from another student, it is cheating. Cheating will result in negative consequences for ALL parties involved.

Make Up Work

It is your responsibility to get all assignments or work that you miss when absent or out of the classroom. Someone in your group will place all handouts in your Math and Science Journals when you are not present. When you return you should glue the pages in and complete the assignments using the notes/data from the lesson or lab. Missed tests/quizzes should be made up the day you return unless other arrangements have been made with the teachers.

Class Philosophy

Math and Science are more than just subjects; they are a way of knowing, thinking and using that knowledge to explain the world around us. Some of you may think that you don’t like math and science, or that they are too hard for you. Others already know that math and/or science are their favorite classes. We believe that everyone learns by doing. The lessons and activities in our classroom are created to provide you with multiple opportunities for learning in a hands-on, minds-on design.
