The Competition is open for entry via email to with the subject line - PHOTO COMP.

Submissions accepted up until 17:00 on November 24th 2014.

Only full or part-time registered students of the Dublin Institute of Technology are eligible to enter.

Staff of the DIT or Grangegorman Development Agency may not enter the competition.

You may submit one (1) photograph in each themed categoryof the Competition as a digital image or print (scanned at high resolution) up to a maximum of five (5) categories / themes.

Photographs on the theme of Sustainability and the Environment in the Grangegorman district and Urban Quarter.

The themed categories are:

5. Transport

6. Construction

7. Health and Wellbeing

8. Governance and Sustainability

Minimum file resolution - 300 d.p.i.Preferably not above 55mb file size.

Do not tag photographs by addition of: watermarks / signature(s), initial(s), frames, border(s), logo(s) by camera hardware or computer software.

Basic cropping of photograph(s)is permitted.Manipulation, retouching or otherwise editing of the photograph(s) by any means is not permitted.

DIT Student GDA Photographic Competition Full Rules Sheet. BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING. By participating in this competition, you are deemed to haveread, understood, acknowledge and unconditionally agree to abide and be bound by the following rules:

  1. SUBMISSIONS. The Competition is open for entry via email to with the subject line - PHOTO COMP. Submissions will be accepted up until 17:00 on November 24th 2014. Entries outside of those times will be deemed invalid. Only full or part-time registered students of the Dublin Institute of Technology are eligible to enter. Staff of the DIT or Grangegorman Development Agency may not enter the competition.
  2. PHOTOGRAPHIC ENTRIES. You may submit one (1) photograph in each themed category of the Competition. You may enter as many categories as you wish up to amaximumof five (5) categories / themes.

2.1.The themed categories are.- Competition entry Code.

2.2.Each entry must be titled as follows:<theme code<name>entry number>

Example: <Theme Code>_<Your name (all one word) - caps on first letter of first and last name>_<photo no (1 of 2 - 2 of 2) (1 of 3 - 2 of 3) etc.>

For example Ms ‘Amy Student’ submits three photographs in total, one for the Biodiversity theme, one for the Waste theme and one for Health and Wellbeing. They would be titled as (1.) BY_AmyStudent_1_3 (Biodiversity entry one of three) (2.) WE_AmyStudent_2_3 (Waste entry 2 of 3) (3.) HW_AmyStudent_3_3 (Health and Wellbeing entry 3 of 3).

The same Photo cannot be submitted in more than one (1) category. Photographs submitted for more than one category will be only allowed into the first theme listed by receipt of email entry. Black and white photographs are NOT permitted in any category of the Competition.

2.3The Grangegorman District. Photographs are to be captured within the district of Grangegorman, and the Grangegorman Urban Quarter. While the Grangegorman District is defined in the Grangegorman Development Agency Act 2005 Schedule II, as encompassing parts of East Cabra Phibsborough, Broadstone, Stoneybatter, Arran and Innis quays, for the purpose of this competition the Grangegorman district area will be limited to the Grangegorman Development site (under development as the new DIT campus) and to include the surrounding roads and streets of: Grangegorman Lower, Grangegorman Upper, Manor St., North Circular Road, Rathdown Rd. and inclusive of the minor roadways and streets within this outline area.

  1. SUBMITTED PHOTOGRAPH(S) SPECIFICATION. Submitted photographs MUST BE:high quality, high resolution suitable for printed publication. JPEG format (do not submit as RAW files). Minimum preferredfile specification –5184 pixel width X 3456 pixel height. Preferably not above a file size of 55mb. Minimum file resolution (no lower than) - 300 d.p.i. Do not tag photographs by addition of: watermarks / signature(s), initial(s), frames, border(s), logo(s) by camera hardware or computer software. Email file as a digital image. Prints must be scanned at high resolution following the specification as above and emailed as an attachment file. Basic cropping of photograph(s) is permitted.Manipulation,retouching or otherwise editing of the photograph(s) by any means is not permitted.
  2. THE PRIZES. The DIT and GDA along with at least one outside expert will be appointed as judging panel to assess and determine the winners. Winning entries will be announced via email on November 28th 2014 at 14:00pm.
  3. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS. Submissions must be a single work created by you. Images must not contain materials owned or controlled by a third party for which permission to use has not been attained. Copyright, trademark, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity or licensing rights must not be infringed on by the entry. Those entering the competition retain full ownership of the image. Full credit will be given to the image owner in the event that the image is published now and at any time in the future. Submitting an entry grants the DIT and GDA perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty free, sub-licensable right and license to use the image. To publish, reproduce, display, distribute or have distributed, print, promote the image in whole or in part, in any media forms known now or hereafter known, anywhere in the world for any purpose. Signed written consent, release /permission clearly authorizing you to use their / the likeness is required for: each and every identifiable individual person(s) appearing in submitted photographs(s) AND / OR the copyright owner of any sculpture, artwork, or other copyrighted material appearing in your submitted entry.
  4. OTHER TERMS. Photographs previously sold or used for commercial purposes are not allowed to be entered. By this meaning that images previously sold in whole or in part for the purpose of solicitation or monetary gain or profit. Previous competition winning photographs are welcome. Details of award received must be included in the entry email. Photographs taken with an analogue camera are permitted but require the printed photograph to be scanned at high resolution (and emailed via the address provided). A short basic description of no less than five (5) but no more than fifty (50) words is required with each entry - this may be an image name, time andlocation taken or any basic relevant background information etc. Panoramic photograph(s) are accepted. Photograph(s) taken before 2014 are permitted but must not be taken prior to the year 2000. Image owners retain the right to sell the photographs and advertise their position in the competition (awards for the top three).
  5. LIABILITY. The DIT and GDA do not hold liability for any claims, judgments, demands, controversies, agreements, damages, actions and causes of action whatsoever, arising out of or related in any way to the Competition or entries and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize that may be awarded. Entrants waive any claims that may state or assert in association with the competition and its associated activitieseven if such injury or claims results from or is caused by the negligence or gross negligence of competition owners. Entrants are deemed to indemnify the competition owners from any claim arising out of your entry including, without limitation, all claims asserted by any third party as a result of any injury or lossassociated with the entrant’sparticipation in the competition. The DIT and GDA reserve the right to exclude any entry deemed to have not followed the rules stated. Competition entries that portray or include inappropriate and/or offensive contents / violence / human rights and/or environmental violation will be excluded. The judging panel have absolute discretion to reject any submission(s) without having to give any notice or explanation to the relevant participant. Under no circumstance will the competition hosts be liable for lost, late, misdirected, stolen, illegible or incomplete submissions or for error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, submitted entries.
