GENERAL EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

Code RED:total school lockdown (close and lock doors)

Code BLUE:biological or bomb threat (evacuation)

Code YELLOW:heightened security alert

Code GREEN:all clear

Code ORANGE:call for First Response Team

Fire
  1. The fire alarm will sound.
  2. Turn off lights and shut doors.
  3. Vacate the building according to your designated emergency route (or alternative route if necessary).
  4. Take clipboard with student roster.
  5. Notify the office via walkie talkie of any missing/extra students.
  6. Specialists and Special Ed teachers - remain with your students. Do not have students join their homeroom classes.
  7. Keep students calm and quiet so that instructions may be heard when given.
  8. Do not go back in the building under any circumstances until a “Code GREEN” is announced to signal the “all clear”.
/ Severe Weather/Tornado
  1. A “take cover” announcement will be made.
  2. All classrooms on the main level will relocate to a safe location on the lower level and assume the “duck andcover” position. (see EmergencyRoom Assignments on Severe Weather Plan)
  3. Take clipboard with student roster.
  4. Notify the office via email of any missing/extra students (DL-PTN-OFFICE STAFF).
  5. Specialists and Special Ed teachers – relocate to your assigned safe location. Do not have students join their homeroom classes.
  6. Students remain silent and listen for further instructions.
  7. Students stay in this position until directed otherwise or a “Code GREEN” is announced to signal the “all clear”.

Building Lockdown
  1. A “Code RED” will be announced.
  2. Every student who is out of class and not under supervision will go immediately to the nearest classroom.
  3. Close & lock doors(do not cover door windows).
  4. Immediately create a list of students not in class.
  5. Notify the office via email of any missing/extra students (DL-PTN-OFFICE STAFF)
  6. Specialists and Special Ed teachers - remain with your students. Do not have students join their homeroom classes.
  7. All outside activities will cease and students will be moved into classrooms, gym, cafeteria, etc., unless directed otherwise.
  8. Adults who do not have supervisory responsibility for students will go immediately to the nearest classroom and email DL-PTN-OFFICE STAFF
  9. Prepare for the possibility of relocating as directed.
  10. Staff will be notified of the circumstances of the lockdown as soon as it is practical to do so.
  11. A “Code GREEN” will be announced to signal the “all clear”.
/ Biological or Bomb Threat
  1. A “Code BLUE” will be announced and it will be
stated whether an overt or a covert search
will be done.
  1. If an overt search is needed, the fire drill
procedure will be followed.
  1. If a covert search is needed, faculty members
will make an immediate search of their areas
for any object that is odd or unusual.
  1. If a suspicious object is found, it should not be
touched or moved. Notify the office of the
location and the fire drill procedure will be
announced and followed immediately.
  1. A “Code GREEN” will be announced to signal
the “all clear”.
