- Fine Arts Theme descriptor
The Fine Arts (visual and performing arts) focus on the historical, aesthetic, critical, and creative approaches to understanding the context and production of art as academic and creative disciplines as opposed to those that emphasize acquisition of skills. Students who complete the Fine Arts requirements should be able to identify and describe works of art by reference to media employed, historical context and style, and structural principles of design and composition. They shoud be able to interpret the meaning or intent of works of art and assess their stylistic and cultural importance by reference to their historical significance, their relationship to earlier works and artists and their overall impact of subsequent artistic work.

- Quantitative Skills Area descriptor for Tier I Basic Skills
Quantitative skills courses increase the mathematical abilities of students in order to make them more adept and competent produces, and wiser consumers, of the mathematical, statistical and computational analyses which will dominate 21st century decision-making. In these courses, all baccalaureate students develop their algebraic, analytic and numeric skills, use them to solve problems and correctly explain their mathematical reasoning.
