General Chemistry: Laboratory writting and limiting reagents. These are two unrelated topics.
This course is designed to educate students in the areas of chemistry that have not been fully developed in previous courses. Molecular structure and properties, stoichiometry, gas laws, acid/base, laboratory safety, nomenclature, solutions and material science are topics to be introduced. The course will include a variety of activities including: lecture, laboratory, demonstration and directed student discovery. Also, since this is a college preparatory course, you need to take responsibility for being in class and getting makeup work or notes. I generally do not have written notes to hand you if you are gone and rarely follow the text directly.

Course project:
All weighted course require that students complete a course project. In this course, due to the great variety of student interest and ability, I allow this project to be one of the students choosing yet related to the science course you are in. . The project may be conducted in groups or individually. But remember to chose wisely! Your grade is based on various factors, originality, quality of presentation(written or other), knowledge of the subject matter, appropriateness of presentation. These may be a written paper(it better be very interesting to me! as well as well done), experimentation, power point, video presentation, speech(persuasive ,informative, other) or most likely other forms of presentation. A big key is make it grade level appropriate, original and interesting. If you chose a topic which is common knowledge to your audience...you have chosen poorly. Furthermore, this can not be project which was developed for another course and must be your own work.(be prepared to back this up) Students are forbidden from addressing topics which may be considered objectionable by the district. Avoid topics which are likely to cause, emotional, psychological or physical damage. "if you can not present this topic to your parents, chosen religious leader, Sheriff Stoltzer, Mr Stewart and Mrs. Weiler" then this is not appropriate. General guidelines for a written paper would be 3-5 pages double spaced and typed with 2 appropriate souses( I really hate papers ...avoid them if possible they have a lower start value as far as points especially if you try to submit a general report of some sort). Due date is generally the first friday in December of the fall semester.
