GE Industrial Control Processes Now Achilles Practices Certified for Enhanced Cyber Security
APC incorporates IEC standards and will ensure compliance upon implementation
Longmont, Colo. – September 15, 2015 — GE’s Control Solutions business line, a division of GE (NYSE: GE) Measurement & Control, today announced its Bronze accreditation in Achilles Practices Certification (APC) by Wurldtech, an independent subsidiary of GE and market leader in industrial cyber security certification standards. Wurldtech has developed 272 strict security benchmarks across 35 key process areas for APC that are used to assess the people, processes and technologies in each organization. This accreditation confirms that cyber security best practices are in place throughout GE’s product lifecycles for power generation and oil and gas organizations, ensuring customers that systems are delivered and implemented securely.
“With the growing complexity of modern infrastructure and increasingly centralized and connected control systems, comes increased risk,” said Terry Knight, General Manager of Control Solutions, GE Measurement & Control. “We have applied Achilles and IEC standards to our processes to meet security practices in organization, system capability, commissioning and acceptance testing, maintenance, and support.”
APC evaluates security engineering processes according to an established set of requirements, ensuring that GE solutions are already compliant at the time of site installation. Additionally, APC consists of best practice benchmarks to help device manufacturers like GE improve cyber security processes and practices. GE’s security solutions not only help organizations reduce risk, but are certified to meet the newly published International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 62443-2-4 vendor standard, the leading international security program for Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS), to ensure the utmost level of security.
Among GE’s Achilles certified cyber security solutions is the SecurityST solution, which provides a centrally managed integral defense-in-depth solution for turbine, plant and generator controls environments. By employing multiple defensive services and technologies, SecurityST supports the reliability, integrity and maintainability of a plant’s critical control system. Overall, the SecurityST solution is designed to support plant operators’ compliance to cyber security regulations, standards and guidelines. Furthermore, its APC standard strengthens its ability to address global critical infrastructure cyber security directives.
“Cyber security is no longer solely the security of your assets, networks and data. Implementing and maintaining up-to-date solutions are critical to the maintenance of your operations,” said Knight. “We recognize how integral cyber security is to maintaining operations, compliance, and safety, and we offer cyber security solutions that are grounded in our deep knowledge of controls.”
