Important Deadlines

For travel during a given semester, you need to both inform GCS of your intent to apply by a specific date and apply by the appropriate deadline.

  • Fall semester: inform GCS of intent to apply by July 30th of the previous summer and apply by October 1st
  • Spring semester: inform GCS of intent to apply by November 30th of the previous fall and apply by February 15th
  • Summer semester: inform GCS of intent to apply by April 30th of the previous spring and apply by June 1st

Requirements for GCS Travel Grant Recipients

  1. Enrollment in either the WSU-Pullman Masters in Chemistry or Doctorate in Chemistry degree program
  2. Advisor/PI not paying for travel expenses requested and same expenses not covered by other funding sources
  3. Maintaining current involvement in GCS, which is defined at a minimum as having volunteered for a GCS event that can be verified within the past year
  4. Receipts for the appropriate expenses to be submitted prior to any decision made regarding the application

1. Description of the objectives and means of accomplishment for research or scholarly activity (general description). Summarize the research using terminology that can be understood by a fellow chemist, but not necessarily from your division/area of research. In your statement, inform the reader of the significance of your research or scholarly activity.

2. Faculty advisor’s comment on the proposed travel request (generally typed). Be explicit regarding the quality and significance of the research and indicate whether the topic has been approved. Indicate the extent of prior review or other evidence of peer approval or interest. Finally, please comment regarding what travel expenses are being covered by the applicant, not reimbursed by the advisor, and therefore merit being covered by a GCS travel grant.
