HUNTING RULES – Please read through carefully

All our prices are VAT Exclusive.

  1. All wounded animals will be charged in full.
  2. Miss shots:
  1. First miss shot on small animals (Impala, warthog etc.): R250,00.
  2. Second miss shot on small animals: 50% of Price list price.
  3. Third miss shot and more on small animals: Full Price list price.
  4. First miss shot on larger animals: 50% of Price list price.
  5. Second miss shot and more on larger animals: Full Price list price.
  1. NO obviously pregnant animals or with young shall be hunted.
  2. In the discretion of management, excessive hunting of female animals for whatever reason, may be stopped.
  3. We are not permitted for bow hunting.
  4. It is recommended but not compulsory to use silencers on rifles. It helps to sustain the serene natural environment of the game animals…. eco-friendly.
  5. Recovery and normal skinning of hunted game is free of charge. We have a step-in cold room.
  6. Trophy skinning of any sort, e.g. cape, flat skin, skull etc. @ R300,00 per trophy.
  7. Salting of all trophies is free of charge.
  8. No taxidermy work of any sort shall be performed.
  9. No meat processing of any sort shall be performed or allowed to be done on our premises. Carcasses will only be cut into transportable sizes.
  10. Sunday and religious holidays e.g. Good Friday, are non-hunting days, except with prior arrangement with the ranch.
  11. We hunt on foot, - fair chase, with hunting guides equipped with two-way radios. Hunter and guide should remain together always. Tipping of guides is highly recommended but must be declared to management.
  12. Limited use of our hunting vehicle....eg. drop-off and collection of hunters and recovery of hunted game, is free of charge. If we are asked to drive around to look for game to be dropped to stalk, or for doing a GAME DRIVE, should time permit, the extra transport will be levied at R600-00 per day, inclusive of 20 liters diesel. No hunting from our hunting vehicle(s) is allowed.
  13. The use of private vehicles, bikes etc. are not allowed on the ranch.
  14. Volharding Game Ranch cannot take responsibility for damaged carcasses in cold room or any other inconvenience caused by Eskom’s power failures.
  15. No alcohol will be allowed during any hunting session and please don’t litter in the veld.

No intoxicated / hung-over hunters will be allowed to hunt.

  1. No hunting will be allowed after sunset, only from daybreak to sunset.
  2. No hunting must be done close to fencing and border roads. Hunters will be responsible for game that break through fencing to adjacent farms.
  3. Please Note. Farm management has an arrangement with the guides to double any bribery money paid to them. It has achieved very good results in the past! Also, please do not offer alcohol to the guides, only cold drinks are allowed.
  4. Each hunter must ensure that he / she is clear on the specie, sex and size of the animal, incl. horn length. The guides / Volharding Game Ranch will not be held responsible for any mistakes made in judging the animal during the hunt. No discount for under size animals will be given. The hunter pulls the trigger and is therefore responsible and not the guide.
  5. The areas around the camps, stores and houses are declared NO HUNTING ZONES.

Shooting of any birds on the farm (incl. the Camp) is NOT PERMITTED.

No Pellet / Air gun / slingshot or any other weapon used to hunt birds will be permitted on the farm.

Birds are protected.

  1. Full account MUST be settled on the day of departure.
  2. All rifles MUST ALWAYS be made safe and magazines emptied before getting onto the hunting vehicle and in and around the camp.

This also applies to getting off the hunting vehicle after the hunt.

All Firearms must be legal & in a good working condition.

All hunting / self-defense (revolvers & pistols) firearms & ammunition must be locked away in the safe when not in use. The use of firearms is only allowed on the shooting range or in the hunting veld. All rifles to be checked / proven as sighted in on the range prior to the hunting commencement.

  1. Calibres smaller than .243 are not permitted, except by prior arrangement with the ranch.
  2. Volharding Game Ranch will not accept any responsibility for theft, accidents, injuries or any costs arising from whatsoever events.

Right of admission is reserved and all persons booked shall have to fill in a personal indemnity form. Please make sure to have personal insurance against illness, injury, loss of valuables, cancellation of flights etc.

***Please note that the main farm gate will be locked after hours for your own safety, but a duplicate key will be available for emergencies

  1. Any person making themselves guilty of misbehaviour / unethical hunting / dangerous handling of firearms / abuse of alcohol will be asked to leave the farm immediately.

No Refunds will be made under such circumstance.

  1. No excessive burning of wood / making very large fires / making of bonfires as this poses a risk to the thatched Lapa. All damage to Volharding Game Ranch’s property will be for the hunter’s account. Property refers to anything which belongs to the Ranch.
  2. Smoking is prohibited in the rooms & care should be taken when smoking in the veld.

Water & Electricity is expensive, please use wisely.

Please switch off the air conditioning / lights when not in use.

**Please also take special note that we operate on a French drain septic tank system.

  1. Non-hunters must be prepared to keep themselves busy in camp during hunting sessions. The use of the swimming pool is at own risk and special care should be taken with young children around.

Walking with a hunter in the veld will result in too much noise and visibility, which will affect the performance of the hunter. It can also be dangerous as a loaded hunting rifle is at hand.
