Gathering Song: “Lord Let Your Glory Fall”

You are good, You are good and Your love endures

You are good, You are good and Your love endures

You are good, You are good and Your love endures today

Lord let Your glory fall as on that ancient day

Songs of enduring love and then Your glory came

And as a sign to You that we would love the same

Our hearts will sing that song, God let Your glory come

Voices in unison giving You thanks and praise

Joined by the instruments and then Your glory came

Your presence like a cloud, upon that ancient day

The priests were overwhelmed because Your glory came

A sacrifice was made and then Your fire came

They knelt upon the ground and with one voice they praised (repeat)

Opening Song: “King of Heaven”

Jesus, let Your kingdom come here, let Your will be done here in us

Jesus, there is no one greater, You alone are Savior, show the world Your love

King of heaven come down, King of heaven come now

Let Your glory reign, shining like the day, King of heaven come

King of heaven rise up, who can stand against us

You are strong to save in Your mighty Name, King of heaven come

Song of Praise: “How Great is Our God”

The splendor of the King clothed in majesty, let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice

Amen.

Scripture Lessons

The Bible is at the heart of our worship, because in it we read and understand the very words of God. Every word in the Bible has come from God and is vitally important so that we can know His heart and His truth. Each week during our service, we read a section of the Old Testament, a Psalm, a section from the New Testament, and a reading from the Gospels. If you do not have your own Bible, we would like to give you one as a free gift – please speak to a clergy member or an usher.

Old Testament Lesson: 1 Kings 19:9-18

As the time of King David’s death approached, he gave this charge to his son Solomon: 2“I am going where everyone on earth must someday go. Take courage and be a man. 3Observe the requirements of theLordyour God, and follow all his ways. Keep the decrees, commands, regulations, and laws written in the Law of Moses so that you will be successful in all you do and wherever you go.4If you do this, then theLordwill keep the promise he made to me. He told me, ‘If your descendants live as they should and follow me faithfully with all their heart and soul, one of them will always sit on the throne of Israel.’ 5“And there is something else. You know what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me when he murdered my two army commanders, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. He pretended that it was an act of war, but it was done in a time of peace, staining his belt and sandals with innocent blood.6Do with him what you think best, but don’t let him grow old and go to his grave in peace. 7“Be kind to the sons of Barzillai of Gilead. Make them permanent guests at your table, for they took care of me when I fled from your brother Absalom. 8“And remember Shimei son of Gera, the man from Bahurim in Benjamin. He cursed me with a terrible curse as I was fleeing to Mahanaim. When he came down to meet me at the Jordan River, I swore by theLordthat I would not kill him.9But that oath does not make him innocent. You are a wise man, and you will know how to arrange a bloody death for him.” 10Then David died and was buried with his ancestors in the City of David.11David had reigned over Israel for forty years, seven of them in Hebron and thirty-three in Jerusalem.12Solomon became king and sat on the throne of David his father, and his kingdom was firmly established. The Word of the Lord.

Psalm: 27:5-11

5For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock.
6Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me. At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy, singing and praising theLordwith music.

7Hear me as I pray, OLord. Be merciful and answer me!
8My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”
9Do not turn your back on me. Do not reject your servant in anger. You have always been my helper.
Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me, O God of my salvation!
10Even if my father and mother abandon me, theLordwill hold me close.

11Teach me how to live, OLord. Lead me along the right path,
for my enemies are waiting for me.

Epistle Lesson: 2 Peter 1:16-21

16For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes17when he received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” 18We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain. 19Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place—until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shinesin your hearts.20Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding,21or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God. The Word of the Lord.

Gospel Hymn: “Be Still”

Be still for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One is here

Come bow before Him now with reverence and fear

In Him no sin is found, we stand on holy ground

Be still for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One is here

Be still for the glory of the Lord is shining all around

He burns with holy fire, with splendor He is crowned

How awesome is the sight, our radiant King of light

Be still for the glory of the Lord, is shining all around

Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. Mark.

People Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Gospel: Mark 9:2-9

2Six days later Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up a high mountain to be alone. As the men watched, Jesus’ appearance was transformed,3and his clothes became dazzling white, far whiter than any earthly bleach could ever make them.4Then Elijah and Moses appeared and began talking with Jesus. 5Peter exclaimed, “Rabbi, it’s wonderful for us to be here! Let’s make three shelters as memorials—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”6He said this because he didn’t really know what else to say, for they were all terrified. 7Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my dearly loved Son. Listen to him.”8Suddenly, when they looked around, Moses and Elijah were gone, and they saw only Jesus with them. 9As they went back down the mountain, he told them not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.10So they kept it to themselves, but they often asked each other what he meant by “rising from the dead.” The Gospel of the Lord.

People Praise to You, Lord Christ.

Gospel Hymn Continued: “Be Still”

Be still for the power of the Lord is moving in this place

He comes to cleanse and heal, to minister His grace

No work too hard for Him, in faith receive from Him

Be still for the power of the Lord is moving in this place

The Sermon

Nicene Creed

Let us confess our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed:

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Prayers of the People

This is a time for group prayer as well as personal prayers. Please prayerfully respond to the leader with the words in bold type. And please add your own prayers of thanksgiving and intercession either silently or aloud when invited to do so.

The Prayers of the People

Let us pray for the whole state of Christ’s Church and the world. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Help us to fulfill your great commission; making disciples of all nations; teaching them to obey all that you have commanded. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Give grace, heavenly Father, to all Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, and especially to Foley Beach, our Archbishop; Keith Andrews, our Bishop; Fr. Brian and Fr. Don, our Priests; and Dee Renner and Rosalind Marver, our Deacons, that by their life and teaching, they may proclaim your true and life-giving Word, and rightly administer your holy Sacraments. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We ask you to rule the hearts of all who govern us. May they administer justice, govern wisely, and strive for the welfare and peace of the whole world. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We humbly ask you, gracious Lord, to comfort and strengthen all those who, in this earthly life are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

I invite you to add your own thanksgivings or requests at this time.

We bless your holy Name for all your servants who departed this life in your faith and fear, praying you would grant us grace to follow their good examples, that with them we might partake in your heavenly kingdom. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

The Deacon concludes with the following prayer

Grant these our prayers, O Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.
