Job Description
Role and Responsibilities
INSTRUCTION & CURRICULUM- Serves as the GLS academic leader with oversight of curriculum, instruction, and student assessment.
- Leads the GLS Instructional Leadership Team.
- Ensures curriculum alignment with Common Core State Standards for Delaware.
- Leads resource selection and adoption in cooperation with the Executive Director.
- Seeks and shares curriculum best practices and training aligned with GLS philosophy and goals.
- Serves as the leader of the building level GLS Administrative Team.
- Oversees and ensures compliance with all state test administration and reporting requirements.
- Implements effective internal assessment systems to monitor the academic the growthof students across short-term and multi-year periods.
- Recruit instructional staff under the direction of the Executive Director.
- Plans and implements staff orientation and year-round professional development for teaching staff and administration in coordination with the Executive Director.
- Evaluates teachers in accordance with state standards and other best practices
- Oversees the management and confidentiality of student academic records.
- Displays consistent personal leadership to building staff
- Acts as the Executive Director’s delegate from time to time.
- Attends all GLS board meetings and prepares reports for the board as requested by the Executive Director.
- Oversees the administration of special education services in coordination with the Director of Special Education and the Executive Director.
- Communicates regularly with the Executive Director concerning student achievement, curriculum development, professional development, staff evaluations, student assessment, parent engagement, building morale, and the budgetary needs for each.
- Articulates and models GLS values to students, families, staff, and the community.
- Collaborates with staff to ensure proper support and implementation of IEP’s and 504 plans.
- Performs all other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the Executive Director.
- Commitment to GLS and to its values, an understanding of GLS’s mission and unwavering commitment and fulfill it. Above all, a commitment to the health and well-being of all students, families, and staff in the GLS Community.
- High level of personal integrity and professionalism.
- Capacity to motivate and lead instructional staff to yield high academic performance from all students.
- Expertise with effective student supports, special education programming and state standards.
- Willingness to exchange constructive feedback on issues that will facilitate growth and achievement.
- Certification in Education Administration.
- At least (5) years of relevant administrative experience.
- Relevant experience in special education administration, with demonstrated deep understanding of the special education process.
- At least (5) years of teaching experience, and three (3) years of experience with teacher coaching, curriculum design or student assessment preferably in special education.
