Position title:Strategic Planning Coordinator

I. Major Function:

The role is to facilitate, provide guidelines and coordinate the development of WWF Greater Mekong Strategic Plan (SP) FY 2011- 2015.

The post holder works to ensure the SP development processes and procedures throughout the organisation are coordinated with all stakeholders and communicated within Greater Mekong Programme Office and the rest of the network effectively and efficiently in the process to ensure the effective approval by WWF International AP Director and Programme Office Management Unit Director

II. Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To support the Representative in the development of the WWF GMPO SP, in the coordination of schedule/process with Programme Support Team (PST), Regional Programme and Country Offices in preparing information and analysis;
  • To assist the Representative in the coordination and efficient implementation of the Programme Audit and Organisation Assessment that will be outcomes leading to the development of the SP;
  • To conduct analysis researches on external factors which impact the strategic plan direction of WWF GMP 2011-2015;
  • To facilitate relevant dialogue, workshops, interviews as necessary to produce the outcomes of the Programme Audit, Organisation Assessment and strategic development;
  • To provide process guidelines and strategic development tools for GMP Senior Management Team;
  • To support the SMT in the writing and consolidation of the SP, as well as in the development of the various sub-sections of the WWF GMPO SP, including assisting in scoping, preparation and the drafting of sections of the plan;
  • To assist the SMT by taking responsibility for certain delegated tasks commensurate with the duties of the post, involving writing, editing, research, internal communications or correspondence in relation to the SP;
  • To support the Communications Coordinator in the final production of a desk-top published version of the report for sharing with the network;
  • To ensure that the Representative is fully briefed on the organisation’s progress in effectively producing the SP and that reports arising from business planning activities are fed back to appropriate staff;
  • To compile lessons learnt during the process to share with the Representative, AP Regional Director and SMT at the end of the project;
  • To carry out specific requests by the Representative on work related to the overall SP planning process.

IV. Working Relationships:

1. Internal:

WWF GMPO: As a coordinating role reporting to the Representative, the post holder will need to develop close working relationships with the SMT of GMP, the Strategic Planning task force of country offices to coordinate, facilitate and implement the development of the strategic plan according to timelines agreed

WWF International: To ensure, through the Representative that WWF International and Network colleagues are kept fully informed on key issues by preparing briefing materials, analyses and reports as directed by the Representative and to co-ordinate communications to the WWF network to ensure consistency and quality.

2. External:

To work directly with local partners, regional institutions, donors on the external review of WWF program and future strategic directions.

V. Key requirements:

Knowledge: Post Graduate degree or relevant education background in strategic management, business, management. Sound knowledge on strategic planning tool and methodology.

Experience:At least five years relevant work experience working on strategic planning and business / institutional planning issues, experience in strategic planning with international NGO is preferable.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong coordination and team work experience with a dynamic, creative and outgoing personality and with preferably a commitment to nature conservation;
  • Excellent diplomatic, negotiating and communication skills are essential;
  • Excellent facilitation skills, especially participatory approaches;
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Excellent English language skills, editing and report writing skills;
  • Proficiency in MS Office;
  • Much of the job involves supporting and getting others to do things, so sensitivity and tact, combined with a confidence, are critical.
