Collaboration/ Co-Teaching Model

Students receive support in core academic subjects through the collaboration/co-teaching model dependent on the assessed areas of need as specified in the IEP. Resource Specialist, SDC Teachers, and Instructional Assistants provide that support.

Special Day Class (self-contained) Model: Non-Severe

Students receive services in separate day classes for core academic subjects. Classes focus on applied curriculum necessary for successful outcomes. Students in the Non-Severe program participate in PE, and Science in the general education setting.

Non-Severe Special Day Class Speech and Language Intensive (SLI)

(NS-SLI) is for students with specific language impairments who need intensive speech and language intervention. The curriculum focuses on improving communications skills while supporting progress in general education curriculum. Placement in this program is made through the Special Education Central Office. Students in the above programs are expected to keep daily agendas and are accountable for assigned work. Students in the Non-Severe program participate in PE, and Science in the general education setting.

Special Day Class (self-contained) Model: Emotional Disorder

Students who are identified ED receive services through separate special day classes. Support in various subjects is provided through the collaboration model. Students in the ED program participate in PE and Science in the general education setting.

Resource Specialist Program (RSP)

Special Day Class (self-contained) Model: Integrated Life Skills

Students in the Integrated Life Skills program receive services in the SDC setting most of the day. Serves the multi-handicapped student population. Placement in this program is made through the Special Education Central Office. An active IEP is required for all Special Education programs. Classes focus on functional curriculum for successful individual outcomes.

Adapted Physical Education (gr 6,7 or 8 an IEP required)

This course is for student with exceptional needs in physical education. It is a diversified program of developmental activities, games, sports and rhythms suited to the needs, interest, capabilities, and limitation of students who may not safely or successfully engage in unrestricted participation in the general physical education program. Instructional units are designed to carry out provisions of the students IEP.
