  1. Welcome, Safety BriefingWayne Mabry

Minutes: July 15, 2009
  • The safety briefing was given by Wayne Mabry.
  • If you leave the room, make sure your PC is locked to the furniture.

  1. IntroductionsAll

Minutes: July 15, 2009
  • The attendees of the meeting introduced themselves and their involvement with gas-lift automation.

  1. Purpose of API RP 19G12 Work GroupCleon Dunham

Minutes: July 15, 2009
  • The purpose of the Work Group was reviewed from the forming document presented to API Sub-Committee 19.

  1. Position of API RP 19G12 Work Group in API OrganizationWayne Mabry

Minutes: July 15, 2009
  • The API 19G 12 Work Group is part of the 19G Task Group, which is part of API Sub-Committee 19.
  • The plan is to perform a word-by-word read-through of the document, at the Task Group level, before it is passed on to the SC 19.

  1. Develop list of potential additional members of Work GroupAll

Minutes: July 15, 2009
  • People to be considered to add to the Work Group roster:
  • IPCOS: Jan Briers. Rick Peters will contact him.
  • Oxy: Greg Stephenson. Cleon Dunham will contact him.
  • Decker Technology: Ken Decker. Cleon Dunham will contact him.
  • Person to be determined: DCS company. ABB can probably cover this area.
  • Sid Smith: Rick Peters will contact him.
  • What are the “gaps” for which we need coverage?
  • Instrumentation
  • Training? Perhaps this can be provided by experts in each area.

  1. Discuss Scope of the DocumentAll

Minutes: July 15, 2009
  • The scope of the document will (may) address the following area:
  • What is Automation?
  • Level I - Automating data acquisition
  • Level II - Automating injection control (well centric)
  • Level III - Optimizing injection control (system centric)
  • Level IV – Dealing with constraints such as sand production, scale, water production, water flooding, etc.
  • Recognizing problems
-Level I alarms – parametric
-Level II alarms – combinations of parameters
-Level III alarms – comparison of actual performance with models
-Level IV – prediction of potential occurrence of events so pre-corrective actions can be taken
  • Developing strategies to address problems
-Level V - responding to problems – have a range of responses from manual to partially automated to closed loop control
-Level VI – relate information here to other models
  • Providing transparency to users
  • What are methods of using automation?
  • Manual collection of data
  • Telemetry of data and manual control
  • Telemetry of data and automated control
  • Telemetry of data and optimized control
