Weigh – In
May 4th & May 5th, 2018
Important
All market sheep, swine, goats, commercial beef, goats and sheep must be weighed and taggedon May 4th or May 5th.
In consideration of proper handling of animals and safety, we ask that each member/family be responsible for assisting with the unloading/loading of their animals.
4-H/FFA members should review the 2018 Market Animal Guide Book.
Any 4-H members showing or selling an animal are required to complete the Maryland 4-H Quality Assurance Training Program at by July 1.
Animal Health Check
All market animals and breeding animals must have a health check before they may participate in shows. To arrange for health checks, you must contact your veterinarian 4 weeks prior to the animal’s first event and schedule a date and time that works for you. There will no longer be a veterinarian doing health checks at weigh-in, you must contact your vet 4 weeks ahead to complete health checks and health papers.

Only one form is required this year. It contains member information, animal ID details, county bred certification & code of animal science ethics.

Attendance Requirements
4-H and FFA members whose attendance does not meet the requirement may attend one or both of the events listed below as make up meetings:
- May 3, 2018 (Livestock Association Meeting) at 7:00 pm at the fairgrounds, helping set up on for the Western Maryland District Livestock Show (WMDS)
- Fall meeting and picnic (date to be announced)
State Fair Animals ~ Exhibitor will need to contact the 4-H office at 301-334-6960 for the State Fair ID Card
Weigh – In Schedule
Friday Evening, May 4th – 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm
- Weigh-in and tagging of market sheep, swine, goats, and commercial beef, goats and sheep.
- Steers will be weighed after all small animals are completed.
- Youth weighing and tagging animals on Friday evening will be able to leave their animals at the fairgrounds Friday night. Every reasonable precaution for safekeeping of animals and equipment will be taken, but the show coordinator will not be responsible for loss or damage from any cause.
- Hoof Trimming: Will be available, a fee will be collected for each animal for this service.
- Complimentary food will be served by the Garrett County Livestock Association on Friday evening.
Saturday Morning, May 5th - 7:00 am to 8:30 am
- 7am – 7:30am Priority will be given to out-of-county animals to be weighed. (Allegany & Washington).
- 7am – 8:30amWeigh-in and tagging of market sheep, swine, goats, and commercial beef, goats and sheep.
- Weigh-in for steers not participating in the Western Maryland District Livestock Show. (optional)
