Robert Eugene Edwards, 61 ,of 617 McCalmont Street, Franklin, went to be with the Lord at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born, June 26, 1948, in Oil City, he was the son of the late James and Mary Goggins Edwards.

He was married to Darlene Carbaugh who survives.

Robert was a Vietnam Veteran where he had been a Sgt. in the Air Force. During this time, he received the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and an Outstanding Unit Award with the Combat of Valor.

He was retired from the Army National Guard. He had also worked as a Security Guard at Quaker State, worked as a Night Watch Supervisor as Vision Quest, worked as a Guard at the Venango County Jail, and most recently had been employed as a Security Guard at Electralloy.

Mr. Edwards was a member of Jesse Green VFW Post #1835,and was a life member of Pleiku Air Base Vietnam Association. He enjoyed reading and watching Steeler’s football with his family.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his two brothers, James Edwards and Bill Edwards, both of Oil City; his three sisters, Donna Swacha, Mimi Alabaugh, and Kathy Lindsey, and her husband, Fred, all of Oil City; and his brother-in-law, Albert Clark of Seneca.

He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.

Robert also loved to spend time with his extended family, which included: Stacy Lynde and her children, David Hines, Julie Hines and Nathan Lynde, and David and Amanda Hines and their daughter, Megan;and Shannon Engel and her children, Elaina Engel and Kristen Carbaugh, also of Cooperstown.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 17 at the Gardinier Funeral Home Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin.

Funeral Services for Mr. Edwards were held at the Funeral Home on Sunday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m., with the Rev. Ed Gresick, of the Grace United Methodist Church , presiding.

Military Honors were accorded by the local V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.

A Dinner for family and friends was held following the Funeral Service at the Franklin VFW.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Disabled American Veterans Association, P. O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
