Game Experience Survey for Conference Officials, Athletics Directors and Coaches
Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the game management and competitive experience at your Conference institutions by surveying officials, athletic directors and coaches.
Use the game management expectations and conduct in competition standards below to create your own questions or copy and paste any of the sample questions provided in this document into your own survey.
III. Event Management Expectations (NAC, Sec. III)
It is a policy of the NAIA for every institution to demonstrate a commitment to conduct in competition consistent with the NAIA’s core values for character-driven athletics. The following standards shall be enforced:
1. After every contest, teams and coaches will stay on the playing surface and shake hands with opponents.
2. Profanity is unacceptable in NAIA competition.
a. PA announcement must be made before the invocation/national anthem or player introductions.
b. PA announcement must be made to give a warning for profanity/vulgarity when deemed appropriate by the event
manager.
3. Support groups (e.g. bands, cheerleaders, etc.) must be placed as far away from the opponent’s bench as possible.
4. Making personal attacks regarding physical characteristics of a player, coach or official is unacceptable and must be
addressed by the crowd control manager.
5. Every institution must assign a person who is solely responsible for crowd control at contests in basketball, football, soccer
and other sports as deemed necessary.
Conduct in Competition Standards
Ejection reports must be completed by the NAIA game official ejecting a student-athlete or coach and the athletics director of the
ejected student-athlete or coach. The form must be submitted to the NAIA within 48 hours after the completion of the contest.
(NAC, Sec. IV)
It is the responsibility of the offending institution to provide written notification to its commissioner of any incidents of misconduct
during a contest, including ejections from a contest, within five days of the incident. (NAIA Bylaws Art VI, Sec. B, #7)
If a selection of sports/genders is provided, one survey can suffice for all sports. Answers can be open-ended, yes or no or multiple choice. The suggested rating scale for multiple choice answers is excellent, good, average, poor. Use an on-line survey, like Survey Monkey, to house your survey and analyze the results.
At the end of the sports season, send the survey link to all Conference officials, Athletics Directors and coaches. Plan to share your results with member institutions, conference commissioners and the NAIA .
