BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS
OFFICE OF HUMAN RESOURCES
February 22, 2008
Dear Boston Public Schools Employee:
The City of Boston has launched The Hub, a new web portal exclusively for City employees, including Boston Public Schools staff. Beginning today, you will have access to this new site, which provides valuable, timely news and information to employees. Best of all, many of the transactions that you once had to complete on paper or in person can now be processed on-line through the “self-service” features of The Hub – even from the comfort of your own home, 7 days a week, 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 a.m.
With self-service technology, you can now do the following on-line, with no processing delays:
· Update your home address, emergency contact information, and federal tax withholdings;
· View past and current pay stubs, as well as health benefits information;
· Confirm or report changes to your professional licensure, languages, and educational degrees;
· Enroll or change payroll direct deposit;
· and much more.
The Hub is also the home of a new Career Center for all job opportunities in the Boston Public Schools and other City departments. Effective immediately, the new Career Center will replace Kenexa, the current BPS on-line recruiting and hiring system. While external candidates will have to input contact information and other details to create an applicant profile, current BPS employees will have the advantage of applying to jobs through The Hub, where much of that information will be uploaded for you automatically. If you are interested in applying for other opportunities in the school district, be sure to login through The Hub to have access to internal postings before they are made available to the public.
Important information about how to login to The Hub is provided on the back of this page. With access to The Hub, all employees will be granted a BPS email address. If you do not already have a BPS email address, you will receive information in the mail about how to set up and use your account. However, anyone with an employee number may login to The Hub prior to receiving that mailing, simply by following the instructions on the back of this sheet.
We are prepared to help you as you become familiar with The Hub and the new Career Center. BPS employees are invited to attend a drop-in session for personal assistance on Thursday, February 28, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m., at Mildred Avenue Middle School, 5 Mildred Ave., Mattapan. You may also contact The Hub Help Desk, weekdays 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., at 617-635-1HUB (1482) or . A representative will get back to you by the next business day.
We hope you find this new service useful and user-friendly. As with any new initiative, we welcome your questions, feedback, and suggestions about how to improve the service for the benefit of all employees.
Sincerely,
Michelle Boyers
Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources
Welcome to …
… a new website and on-line self-service center for City of Boston employees.
To login to The Hub:
· From any computer connected to the Internet, launch a web browser (such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
· If you are at a computer on a BPS or City of Boston server, you can simply type the word Hub in the address bar of your browser, and hit the <Enter> key.
If you are at home or using any other computer outside of BPS, type the following in the address
bar: https://hub.cityofboston.gov and hit <Enter>.
· When prompted for your User ID, enter your six-digit employee ID number. Your employee ID number is printed on your pay stub.
· The first time you login, you must use the password created for you. It consists of the word boston (all lower case letters), followed by the last four digits of your social security number.
For example, if your social security number were 123-45-6789, your password would be
boston6789.
· You may then see a box that reads, “This page contains both secure and non-secure items. Do you want to display the non-secure items?” If this box appears, click on the “Yes” button.
· After logging in, you will be prompted to create a new password, and you will be asked a series of questions to ensure the security of your account. Do not share your password with anyone. Anyone with access to your account in The Hub would have access to your confidential personnel information.
To visit the Career Center:
· From any page within The Hub, click on “My Career Development,” and choose from options in the top left corner of the screen under “Career Center.” Click on “Find a New Job” to apply for posted job opportunities.
