Course Description:
As an extension of Digital Literacy and Advanced Computer and Technology Applications, students will have the opportunity to gain certification in Beechwood’s Microsoft IT Academy. Advanced functions and integration of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint will be taught. Students will work toward MOS/MCAS Certification in one or more of these Microsoft areas. In addition, students will utilize Internet access to complete various Informatics projects utilizing Excel and Access. Leadership development will be provided through FBLA.

The student will be able to insert and modify tables, diagrams, and charts. The student will be able to insert and modify hyperlinks in all types of documents.

The student will be able to create new documents and presentations using templates.

The student will be able to save documents in appropriate formats for different uses.

The student will be able to create and modify queries, forms, and reports using access. The student will be able to import data to access and export data from access.

The student will be able to demonstrate how to back up a database.
  1. Develop work habits and ethics:
The student will be able to identify individual work habits/ethics and explain their importance in the workplace.

The student will be able to research and analyze career opportunities for an individual that has the MOS/MCAS certification and develop an electronic employment portfolio.

The Microsoft Imagine Academy offers training not only on fundamental technology skills but also technical courses.

Curriculum:
  • The Microsoft Official Academic Course (MOAC) series delivers a complete learning and teaching framework developed specifically for use in an academic setting.
  • SREB Informatics projects simulate the real world use of Excel and Access in business. The projects will reinforce certification knowledge by giving students the opportunity to apply Microsoft Excel and Access.

Course Timeline:
This course is self-paced and students may work ahead to gain optimum certification, computer science, and IT infrastructure.
Instructor will conduct classes with discussion (reasons to learn topic), demonstration, personal practice and assessment. The Microsoft IT Academy has modules providing the best course of action.
Students are encouraged to work forward and pass all certifications. There will also be the opportunity to supplement with INFORMATICS PRODUCT APPLICATIONS.

Classroom Expectations:
1. RESPECT yourself, your peers, all adults and equipment.
2. The computer lab is food and drink-free. Water is acceptable.
3. All book bags are to be stored under the table or directly beneath the red chair. Book bags shall not be stored between the red chairs.
4. Keep all cell phones and electronic devices turned off and stored in the cell phone area provided.
5. While tests are being administered in the TEST CENTER, class will be quiet. Test candidates will stay focused on their own computer. No cell phones in TEST CENTER (should be in front of room).
Attendance Policy:
Attendance is very important. My goal is for all students to be successful. Attending class is the first, most important step to successful learning and certification credentials. Tardy is entering the classroom after the bell has rung. Ask teacher for a note with their signature in order to excuse the tardy.
Consequences earned for not meeting class expectations:
1st Consequence – Verbal warning and/or parent contact (phone call or e-mail)
2nd Consequence – Detention and/or classroom expulsion, parent contact.
3rd Consequence – Referral to Administrator
