With the absence of Dr. Kay Brooks, Chair, Robyn Garrett welcomed members and called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m.

2018 Spring Fling Planning Sub-Committee Update

  • Total of 325 participants; largest group ever hosted.
  • Board will be approached regarding planning and budget for the following years.
  • EMS was called on a couple occasions and a few individuals were referred to the ER but ultimately no major occurrences.
  • The campus at Epworth was beautiful.
  • Wrap-up planning call to be scheduled for this coming week.
  • Dr. Thomas and Lowell Williamson were commended for their continued support of the event by joining the event when possible.
  • Dr. Johnson was thanked for his agency participation, particularly from the I/DD population.
  • Recovery Empowerment Council Meeting was held at Spring Fling; next meeting in June.
  • GACSB appreciative of the few individuals from Unison who sent written thank you notes following the conference.

Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) Training – BH Sub-Committee Request

  • Robyn will review and be working on details to be provided to Committee and membership after.

2018 Educational Exchange – Westin, Jekyll Island (October 28-30, 2018)

  • Previously the Committee considered the theme of: Care of our clinicians and staff. Leadership or self-care from a clinical perspective. This focus could help towards the promotion of leadership and retention.
  • NatCon’s focus was to some extent about healthcare of leadership and the importance for empathy. The previous focus the Committee discussed will remain.
  • Mark Taylor, one of the BH Director at Gateway BHS, found that the DLA-20 sessions were particularly helpful explaining how to understand outcomes, the reason for the outcomes, and the role of DLA-20 (clinical value and practical sides shared).
  • Dr. Johnson will find out which two sessions/presenters.
  • Dr. Thomas participated in the Michael D. Flora, MBA, MAEd, and Willa S. Presmanes, MEd, MA(Clinical Related) session.
  • Include some of progress within the CSB’s pilot.
  • Two different tracks (with a few slides at the beginning of each session to connect the two)
  • Clinical Track = How to utilize and improve care

Dr. Joe Parks was recommended

  • Information forwarded to committee by Dana Glass, CCO at Aspire who attended NatCon, which provided a listing of recommendations. Members showed interest in Work Smarter, Live Better byJoe Robinson.
  • Manage stress, burnout
  • Set Boundaries
  • Work Recovery strategies.
  • To be considered for a Monday Plenary.
  • Brene Brown was highly recommended by various staff.
  • John has reached out to her as well as the Modern Warrior folks; he will follow-up.
  • Dr. Omar Manejwala’s presentation that Alcohol is the Forgotten Killer, was engaging.
  • Dana Glass, Lisa Spears, David Kidd, and Dr. Thomas felt he was a plausible candidate for our group.
  • Linda Rosenberg
  • Members decided to not extend an invitation to speak as she is scheduled to retire.
  • Dr. Johnson recommended Moving from Risk Assessment to thePerson-centered Safety Assessment
  • Shari Sinwelski, MS/EdS, National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, Mental Health Association of New York City;
  • Jennifer J. Armstrong, LPC-MHSP, Centerstone;
  • Kathryn VanBoskirk, MSW, LivingWorks Education
  • Omit Bart Andrews
  • Focus: Crisis Response and Suicide Prevention. The current system is about risk assessment and not safety. This panel did an excellent presentation on the paradox shift occurring in the last two years and has data showing the differences made.
  • Robyn to contact DBHDD once the slide deck has been obtained to sponsor these speakers given the Department’s current policies.
  • It does not appear that any of the committee members attended Wicked Problems: Using Population Health Tools to Solve Our Most ComplicatedBehavioral Health Cases.
  • Julia T. Kyle, MSW, MBA, and Chad A. June, Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority
  • Focus: Population Health
  • Robyn will contact Lookout Mountain, DeKalb, New Horizons and the other CSB participants to obtain their recommendations. Specifically the one above.
  • John recommendedElinore F. McCance-Katz, MD, Ph.D. the Assistance Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use of SAMHSA.
  • Sunday Keynote: Robyn will reach out to Kevin & Margaret Hines.
  • He has a new book and film coming out.
  • Include a book signing.
  • Tracks
  • Keep all three: Board, Clinical, and Management
  • One Days
  • Due to the location it’s uncertain if other agencies, beside the local ones, would be able to send clinical team members for one day.
  • The $150 fee for these individuals does not cause a loss for the Association.
  • Decision was made to NOT offer the one day tracks this year but to promote the full conference to clinicians/IDD leadership.
  • I/DD
  • Robyn will approach June regarding session topics and speakers. She believes Supportive Employment would be a timely topic. National and State speakers will be considered.
  • Approved 2018 Registration Fees:
  • $300 – Board Members remains
  • $350 – Regular Registration increased due to the increased cost for the Westin and Convention Center.
  • Overflowhotels will need to be determined.
  • Robyn has spoken with a few vendors during NatCon and hopefully new vendors will join the group this year.
  • Members asked to think about what to include on the graphic logo for the event.
  • Members agreed for Robyn to speak with Dana regarding her referenced Supervisors for CPS/CPRP workshop and consider including this as a session for our Clinical Directors/Program Managers.
  • Dr. Johnson was interested in offering a session on Changes with the Workforce (Millennials); teaching our non-millennials to work with millennials.
  • Improving a mutual respect for our co-workers; to include everyone, not just HR Directors.

Other Business

  • Glynn County Fire Department Deputy Chief: Tommy Dixon, retires later this year.
  • Group agreed to present him with an acknowledgement at the Exchange from the Association for his dedication to the Spring Fling and individuals over the last 4 years. Possibly a plaque and a resolution.

With no additional concerns or comments, members were reminded the next Committee meeting is Monday, June4, 2018 at 3pm via teleconference. Meeting adjourned at 4:53pm.
