Fundraising Manager – Breakthrough UK
Key tasks:
- To produce and implement a fundraising strategy
a)To produce a compelling case for support for use with current and potential donors and supporters.
b)Identify and assess potential sources of funds for the organisation.
c)Advise the Chief Executive on the best method of approach, including an assessment of likeliness and cost effectiveness.
d)Prepare an annual fundraising budget and plan for the organisation in conjunction with the Chief Executive and Board of Directors.
e)To produce regular reports against the annual plan and ensure accurate forecasts are produced of likely fundraising income and expenditure.
- To raise funds from individual and corporate supporters
a)To make effective and cost efficient approaches to potential donors at a target income/expenditure ratio agreed with the Chief Executive (likely to be 2:1 in the short term rising to 4:1 in years 2-3 onwards).
b)In particular, to target individual and corporate donors and grant making foundations, wherever possible securing unrestricted funds for the organisation’s core operations.
c)To make targeted grant applications where requested by the organisation.
d)To lead fundraising or other events organised by external organisations in support of Breakthrough UK.
e)To represent the organisation externally, on occasions speaking to public audiences and or the media when required to do so by the Chief Executive.
- To build and retain successful relationships to support the sustainability of funding
a)Develop a core stewardship plan for the organisation, ensuring donors and supporters receive up to date and targeted information on Breakthrough UK’s work.
b)Gather information from across the organisation’s work to include in donor communications, ensuring full cooperation of colleagues and stakeholders.
c)Implement a stewardship calendar ensuring supporters receive an effective programme of communications, combining financial, programme and other information in conjunction with the Chief Executive and other stakeholders.
- To secure income from legacy donations
a)Ensure that income from legacies is built into the wider fundraising strategy, to enhance the likelihood of long term income being received by Breakthrough UK.
b)Develop materials and other communications for supporters of the organisation and the wider public explaining the benefits of leaving a charitable bequest to Breakthrough UK.
c)Develop relationships with local advisors and other organisations who might be able to assist with introducing the work of Breakthrough UK in an appropriate manner.

2-3 Years’ experience of:
Building effective relationships with donors and fundraising partners.
Identifying potential major donors and involvement in recruiting major support
Developing effective promotion and communication material
Legacy marketing
Involvement in Fundraising Campaignsan advantage but not essential
Knowledge:
Fundraising theory and practice
A clear understanding of the donor journey and donor development
Stewardship as a key tool in fundraising
Basic legislation as it relates to fundraising, especially corporate partnerships
