Solutions to Unit B EOU ExercisesWIN-1

Skills Review

Students should submit two printed copies of the file named QST Company Info that are identical to the files found on the solutions disk, except for a possible variation in the size of the circle around the logo. Students also play the audio clip WIN B-4.wma using Windows Media Player and play the video clip WIN B-6.wmv using WindowsMediaCenter.

Independent Challenges

Because students will solve the independent challenges in different ways, it is important to stress there is not just one correct solution. The following are examples of possible solutions for the Independent Challenges in Unit B of this book.

Independent Challenge 1

Students’printouts should look like the following:

  1. Enter the heading (the name of the bookstore, address, city, state, zip code, and phone number), pressing [Enter] after the name, address, and zip code.
  2. Center the heading information.
  3. Change the Font for the heading to Veranda.
  4. Enter the title Bestsellers List, center it, then change the font size to 18 point.
  5. Italicize the title of each book, then format the last and first names of each author with boldface.

In the Advanced Challenge Exercise:

  • Add color to the heading text.
  • Underline the entire line containing the column headings, make it bold, and add color.
  • Change the second column tab stops to 2 inches and the third column tab stops to 4 inches.
  1. If necessary, change the top and bottom margins to 0.75.
  2. The file should be saved to the drive and folder where your Data Files are stored, with the name Bestsellers List.rtf.
  3. Preview and print the document.

Independent Challenge 2

Students create a logo called Stationery Logo.bmp for a company. It should look like the following, with possible variation in color choice for the juggle balls. Students print the document and save it to the drive and folder where your Data Files are stored, with the name Stationery.rtf.

Independent Challenge 3

Students are to create, print, and save a WordPad file named Graffiti.rtf to the drive and folder where your Data Files are stored. There should also be a linked Paint file named GGRI Logo.bmp. Note that there is room in this solution for students’ creativity; however, they should make sure to include the following:

  1. A logo with the words “GGRI Logo” and some design using the Paint airbrush tool.
  2. A letter to the Los Angeles city council requesting a contract to remove graffiti from city property.
  3. When you’re done, play a short video of the graffiti problem in Windows Media Player.

The following is an example of what students might submit:

Real Life Independent Challenge

Students’ printouts will vary slightly from the following example, but make sure they include the following:

  1. Type the information for the invitation, which includes the invitation title; date, time, and location of the party; directions; your name and phone number; and the date to respond by.
  2. Change the title text to a larger size, boldface, center align, then add color.
  3. Change the rest of the text to a smaller size and a different font type.
  4. Save the WordPad document as Invitation.rtf to the drive and folder where you store your Data Files.
  5. Copy the map from the file WIN B-10.bmp to the Clipboard.
  6. Place the insertion point above the instructions in the invitation, then paste the map into the WordPad document.
  7. Save the document, preview the document, make any necessary changes, then print the document.
