DISTRICT INSPECTION WITHIN THE CREATIVE AND EXPRESSIVE AREA OF STUDY 2004-2005
The Education and Training Inspectorate carried out a District Inspection within the Creative and Expressive area of study in Dunseverick Primary School, Bushmills in February 2005. The strengths and area for development in art and design were identified as follows.
Strengths of the work include the:
  • attractive displays of the children’s art work throughout the school which celebrates the children’s achievements;
  • high levels of motivation and involvement of the children during the art and design sessions;
  • high quality of most of the teaching; including the many examples of good to excellent teaching practice observed;
  • effective co-ordination of art and design which ensures the staff are developing their knowledge, confidence and competence in the range of creative processes;
  • commitment of the Principal and the Board of Governors to the continued development of art and design as an important constituent of the school’s educational provision;
  • effective use of the local natural, cultural and historical environment as a stimulus for art activities; and
  • excellent use made of external expertise, including parents who are artists, in the enrichment and extension of the children’s experiences in the area of study.
Area for Development the need to:
  • to develop further the role of the co-ordinator to monitor and evaluate the quality of the children’s creativity.
