FUEL PRICE REPORT JULY 2007

Fuel prices in mid-July are at a pivotal point: caught between lower wholesale prices and oil prices that are nudging the record high. Since the start of July, petrol and diesel prices in the UK have fallen by a quarter of a penny while crude oil prices have shot up 10 per cent to beyond $78 a barrel. How these high oil prices impact on UK forecourt prices in coming weeks is a source of concern

Nationally, Unleaded priceshave fallen by 0.3p per litre to 96.7ppl. Diesel prices have also decreased slightly, by 0.2ppl to 97.2ppl. The price difference between Unleaded and Diesel has risen from 0.4ppl in June to 0.5 pence in July.

Walesand theSouth Westrecorded the highest price for Unleaded at 97.2ppl followed byEast Angliaat 97.1ppl. The North Westagainrecorded the lowest price at 96.1ppl. East Anglia, Walesand South Westrecorded the highest Diesel prices at 97.5ppl, followed byNorthern Irelandand Scotlandat 97.4ppl. The North Weststill has the cheapest Diesel at 96.3ppl.

Supermarket prices for Unleadedalso fellover the month by 0.5ppl to 95.2ppl. The gap between supermarket prices and the UK average for Unleaded has risen slightly to 1.5ppl (last month the difference was 1.3ppl).

Overseas prices have also risen. The UK has the seventhhighest Unleaded price in Europe.
