O my mind why are you worried? The Good Lord will provide.

God has created living beings all over the world and put sustenance before them.

Our relations and friends he supports, why have fear in mind?

The birds come flying hundreds of miles leaving their young behind;

God holds in his palm all the treasures of the world.

Zoroastrian

Thy name is above all names, the most majestic and most sublime.

The sound of thy name is the sweetest that human ear can hear.

Countless persons call thee simultaneously by thy name,

and thou dost hear them all and respond to them all at one and the same moment.

Prayers for private use in association with

the Licensing of Fr Anand

at All Saints’ Church

on Saturday 3 February 2007

These prayers are offered for your use in preparing for the service or in reflecting on it afterwards. Most of the prayers have been used on occasion as a prelude to Sunday worship here at All Saints’, but others have been added so that there is now one from each of the eight religions that, along with Christianity, are represented in the Inter Faith Network for the UK, which Bishop Tom chairs.

Baha'i

O my God, O my Lord, O my Master!

I beg Thee to forgive me for seeking any pleasure save Thy love,

or any comfort except Thy nearness,

or any delight besides Thy good pleasure,

or any existence other than communion with Thee.

Buddhist

May we purify our minds, limit our desires, learn to be content,feel free to experience the quiet unassuming joys of life,and learn to abandon all attachments formed in the mind.

With this prayer, we endeavour to increase our understanding and appreciation of what others have given and contributed to us, and to develop constant, mindful consideration of how our thoughts and action will beneficially contribute to others.

Hindu

Who is the God to whom we shall offer adoration?

The God of gods in whose glory the worlds are,

and who rules this world of humanity and all living beings.

God of forms infinite, in whose glory all things are, smaller than the smallest atom,

and yet the Creator of all, everliving in the mystery of creation.

In the vision of this God of love there is everlasting peace.

Jain

All in this world are my friends; I have no enemies.

Let the whole universe be blessed; let all beings be engaged in one another's well-being;

let all weakness, sickness and faults be diminished and vanish;

let everyone, everywhere be blissful and at peace.

Jewish

In praising God we say that all life is sacred.

In kindling festive lights, we preserve life’s sanctity.

With every holy light we kindle,

The world is brightened to a higher harmony.

We praise You, God, majestic sovereign of all life,

Who hallows our lives with commandments

and bids us kindle festive holy light.

Muslim

All that we ought to have thought, and have not thought,

All that we ought to have said, and have not said,

All that we ought to have done, and have not done;

All thatwe ought not to have thought, and yet have thought,

All that we ought not to havespoken, and yet have spoken,

All that we ought not to have done, and yet have done;

For thoughts, words, and works, pray we O God for forgiveness.
