*PREPARING FOR COLLEGE* (Intended as a reference only)

JUNIOR YEAR:

September:

·  Inquire about PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) date, time and location. This test is given in October only.

·  Check the Guidance Office bulletin boards for local College Fairs or College Night Programs

·  Continue to do research through your Naviance/Family Connection account

October:

·  Futures Day

·  Take the PSAT/NMSQT

·  Attend local College Fairs/College Night programs to get more information on schools of interest to you.

·  Attend presentations offered by college representatives who visit Revere. Sign-up using your Naviance/Family Connection Account.

November:

·  Individual junior interviews will be scheduled with counselors to discuss transcripts, courses for senior year, ACT/SAT credits, etc.

·  Check dates for ACT and SAT tests. (Registration materials available in Guidance Office)

December:

·  Receive results of PSAT/NMSQT. Read materials sent with your scores and consult your counselor to determine how you might improve. This can be an excellent preparation for the SAT test.

January:

·  Begin to think about which college and university you would like to explore. Make a list on your Family Connection account.

February:

·  Information about every college and university is available online. Family Connection is a good resource.

March:

·  Write to colleges on your list requesting information. You may also check out college websites.

April:

·  Check on ACT/SAT dates and registration deadlines.

·  Continue to evaluate colleges and begin to eliminate some choices.

May:

·  Sign up for June SAT/ACT.

·  Take SAT II (achievement tests) if necessary for your college choices.

June:

·  Take ACT/SAT. Results will come to your home during the summer.

·  Plan visits to colleges during the summer.

·  Take SAT II (achievement tests if necessary)

July/August:

·  Visit colleges (call ahead for appointment)

SENIOR YEAR:

October:

·  Futures Day

·  Take the ACT or SAT and have the scores sent to the colleges on your list.

·  Attend a regional College Fair to investigate those colleges to which you probably will apply.

·  Begin to gather information needed for applications.

·  Line up teacher recommendations.

·  Fill out and return the personal data sheet obtained from your Naviance/Family Connection account. It is used as a reference for recommendations.

·  If applying Early Decision, send your application now. Also, prepare applications for back-up schools.

·  Start sending applications (sent through the Guidance office)

·  Sign-up for December/January SAT II (achievement tests) or December ACT.

·  Meet with college representatives who visit Revere.

·  Consult your Naviance account for scholarship and financial aid information.

·  Complete the FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1.

November:

·  Take the SAT and have scores sent to colleges on your list

·  Continue filling out applications on your list

·  If appropriate, obtain Financial Aid forms from the Guidance Office.

·  Meet with college representatives who visit Revere.

·  Consult your Naviance account for scholarship and financial aid information.

December:

·  Take SAT/ACT or SAT II, if necessary, and have scores sent to colleges on your list.

·  File your last college application (Check deadline)

·  If you applied for Early Decision, you should have an answer shortly.

·  Consult your Naviance account for scholarship and financial aid information.

January:

·  Keep working on grades, courses continue to count throughout your senior year.

·  Take any necessary SAT II (achievement test) and send scores to colleges on your list.

·  Fill out and send Financial Aid forms, if appropriate

·  Consult your Naviance account for scholarship and financial aid information.

March/April:

·  Local scholarship applications are available online. Return to the Guidance Office prior to stated deadlines.

Before May 1:

·  Decide on the one college which you will attend. Send in tuition deposit.

·  Notify the other colleges that accepted you, that you have selected another college.

May:

·  Take Advanced Placement exams (if applicable). Information will be provided prior to exam dates.

·  Request that your final transcript be sent to the college of your choice through your Naviance account.

·  GRADUATION!!!
