Objectives

Students will be able to:

·  Combine the information they have learned from reading the novel with the music they listen to from the Broadway musical.

·  Analyze the music and reflect on what it adds to or takes away from the original text.

·  Illustrate their understanding and analyses in essay form.

The Lesson

Procedures

  1. Have students take out notebook/paper to take detailed notes on the discussion of the music in relation to the novel.
  2. Play a song from the soundtrack.
  3. Take time for discussion and note taking on how that song corresponds to the text and what it might add or take away from the text.
  4. Assign reflective essay for students to complete.
