Thursday Keynote: Sherene McHenry
Sherene is a Life and Leadership IQ expert, Dr. Sherene McHenry empowers counselors to avoid burnout and enhance relationships so they can reignite their passion and be more effective on a daily basis. Sherene has a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of Wyoming, speaks internationally and is the author of Pick: Choose to Create a Life You Love and The Busy Student’s Guide to College and Career Success. A former counselor educator, Sherene now works with associations and organizations who want to enhance engagement, increase effectiveness and boost productivity. She’s a member of the American Counseling Association, the National Speakers Association and past president of the Michigan National Speakers Association.
Friday Morning Keynote: Barbara Colosoro
Barbara Colorosois an international bestselling author and for the past 44years, an internationally recognized speaker and consultant on parenting, teaching, school discipline, positive school climate, bullying, grieving, nonviolent conflict resolution and restorative justice.
She has appeared on Oprah, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN and NPR and has been featured in the New York Times, Time, U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek, and other national and international publications.
Her uniquely effective parenting and teaching strategies weredeveloped through her years of training in sociology, special education, and philosophy, as well as field-tested through her experiences as a classroom teacher, laboratory school instructor, university instructor, seminar leader, volunteer in Rwanda, and mother of three grown children.
She is the author of four international bestsellers: Kids are worth it! Giving Your Child the Gift of Inner Discipline; Parenting Through Crisis—Helping Kids in Times of Loss, Grief and Change; The Bully, the Bullied, and the Bystander—From Pre-School to High School, How Parents and Teachers Can Help Break the Cycle of Violence; and Just Because It’s Not Wrong Doesn’t Make It Right—From Toddlers to Teens, Teaching Kids to Think and Act Ethically. Friday Afternoon Keynote: Scott Seaman
Scott Seaman joined AWSP in July 2013. Scott was a teacher, coach and principal for 19 years. He spent 12 of those years as Principal at Tumwater High School. Scott's career started as a Spanish teacher and soccer coach at Capital High School in Olympia. He then moved to neighboring Tumwater School District and became the Assistant Principal at Tumwater High School for three years before taking over the principalship. Scott graduated from Olympia High School in 1989. He then went on to play soccer and start his undergraduate work at Oregon State University. After transferring to Washington State University, he graduated with a degree in Spanish and a minor in English. He later attended Seattle University where he earned his Masters in School Administration. Scott later returned to WSU to earn his superintendent credentials and is currently a member of UW’s Leadership For Learning doctoral cohort.
