What are the dates of the Games?

The Games run from Sunday the 25th December 2011 until Tuesday the 3rd January 2012.

Where are the Games?

Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Who is eligible to be part of the Australian Delegation to the Games?

You must be an Australian Citizen or have resided here for at least 6 months. You must be of the Jewish faith to be eligible to Compete. Coaching staff do not need to be Jewish. You must then meet requirements relevant to your sport.

Membership to Maccabi Australia

To be eligible to be part of this team, you must be financial members of MAI, either directly or through your state organisation. A $33 surcharge applies if you are not a current financial member.

How much will it cost to attend the Games?

Below is a breakdown of the estimated costs (this excludes coaches and trainers).

What is the payment schedule?

Will there be any additional fees?

YES, Visa costs, playing strip and coach levies (where applicable).

What are the Flight and Travel arrangements?

Goldman Travel is the official travel agents for Maccabi Australia Inc. All travel arrangements must be made through Goldman Travel. The only exception is for frequent flyer ticket bookings (proof must be provided). This includes whether or not on the official team flight. It is anticipated that there will be one official team flight leaving on Wednesday 21st December 2011. Team members and spectators who travel with the official flight will have airport transfers in Sao Paulo to the official accommodation. Those who travel outside of these flights will be responsible for booking and paying for their own airport transfers in Sao Paulo. The return flight will be on Wednesday 4th January 2012. We anticipate flying with Qantas or Lan who are a Oneworld partner airline.

What are the Visa and passport requirements?

Arranging a visa is your responsibility. It takes approximately 30 days to secure a tourist visa. Goldman Travel will assist you. The cost of the visa is not included in the above pricing. If you are travelling on an Australian passport you will require a visa to enter Brazil. You are required to have at least 6 months validity remaining on your passport. http://brazil.visahq.com/

What are the Medical/Immunisation requirements?

All athletes will need to be up to date with the following immunisations and will need to demonstrate proof of these:
1. Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (Boostrix) – this needs to be in the last 10 years.
2. Vivaxim (Hepatitis A and Typhoid together) –this is a booster which lasts three years.
3. Yellow fever immunisation - this needs to be given by doctors at special World Health Organisation approved clinics, and you will need proof of immunisation to be allowed back into Australia.
4. If athletes are travelling to other parts of Brazil (other than Sao Paolo & Rio) or South America including the Amazon Delta, they will be required to have Antimalarials.
This would usually be Doxycycline (dose of 1 daily from 2 days before till 10 days after leaving area), or Lariam(does of 1 weekly) or Malarone (dose of 1 daily).
5. If athletes are travelling toArgentina they will require Chloroquinas their antimalarial 6. All athletes/management who are aged 40 and older will require a current (negative) stress test. This test must have been completed within the last 4 years.

What divisions are on offer for the Games?

There are two divisions.

1.  Open – athletes all ages, generally 18 – 34 years

2.  Masters – athletes aged 35+ and 45+

Can my family come?

Yes. There will be official supporters of the team. Please advise us if you are interested in bringing your family.

What is the weather like?

It is Summer in Brazil. Please note that December through February are rainy, hot, and humid months.

Team Handbook

Athletes can source advertisements for the official handbook. There is an administration/printing fee for each advert, and the balance can get allocated to the athlete’s account. Booking forms are available; please contact Michelle

Australian Sports Foundation

This is an authorised project of the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF). Tax deductible donations can be sourced subject to the rules and regulations as outlined on the ASF website. www.asf.org.au. Forms available upon request

Is there going to be a uniform?

YES, there will be an official uniform. The wearing of team uniforms during the games is compulsory. The uniform includes marching and casual gear. There is no additional charge as this is included in your participation fee. However, playing strips will incur an additional charge, and are not included in the above pricing. Sample sizes & order forms will be available soon. Uniforms will be provided by GPI Corporate Pty Ltd, the official uniform suppliers of Maccabi Australia Inc.

When do I need to submit my nomination form?

Nominations are open now. This must be completed in full online. Nominations close on Tuesday 7th June 2011.

Is there Security for the team?

YES. The Games Organisers take security very seriously and have already invested much time and effort into securing these Games. In addition we will be taking our own security officer who will liaise directly with the security team in Sao Paolo. A full briefing will be provided prior to departure.

Will I need to hire my own transport?

No. Official transport will be provided to all sporting and social events. This is available for all participants and official supporters. We strongly recommend that you do not hire a car/ drive in Sao Paolo.

Will there be a Post Games Tour?

YES. There will be a Post Games Tour and this is being arranged by Milton Massell at Goldman Travel. Email expressions of interest to

Will there be coaches and trainers?

YES, where applicable. Each team will be levied for the full cost of their coach.

What do I need to do now?

You need to complete a nomination form and submit it with a photo, brief sporting CV, a copy of your passport, together with $1,000. Nominations close on 7th June 2011. You should also find out what the requirements for your sport are by speaking to your Section Manager. If you can’t find any of this information, please email with any questions.

Is the deposit refundable?

The deposit will be refunded upon non-selection only. If you are selected in a team and withdraw after selection you may lose your deposit.
