MR. KLINKOWSKI

2010 – 2011

I. DETERMINATION OF QUARTERLY GRADES

Each quarterly grade consists of the following:

A.WRITTEN TESTS

Written tests include chapter tests, literature and civilization exams (upper levels) etc. Each written test will count as 100 points. Students who miss an exam due to an excused absence can make it up within the time specified in the Student Handbook. Students who do nottake the written test receive a “0.”

  1. ORAL PROFICIENCY TESTS

Oral proficiency tests include answering questions, talking about pictured activities, creative skits etc. Each oral test will count from 50 -100 points. Students who miss an oral test due to an excused absence can make it up within the time specified in the Student Handbook. Students who do not take the oral proficiency test receive a “0.”

C. QUIZZES

Quizzes are always announced and are given frequently. All quizzes are to be made up before the chapter test is given. All “étape” quizzes will count between 30-50 points each. Students who miss a quiz due to an excused absence can make it up within the time specified in the Student Handbook. Students who do not take a quiz receive a “0.”

D. WRITING

Writing may include dialogues, paragraphs, compositions, essays, projects, PowerPoint presentations etc. Each writing assignment will count as 100 points, but the point value can increase depending on the project (e.g., French V - the Children’s Story). The use of an online translator is strictly prohibited in doing creative writing! Each assignment must consist of both a rough draft and a final draft and are due on the assigned dates, unless the student has an excused absence and can make it up within the time specified in the Student Handbook. If either the rough draft or the final draft is turned in late, the grade automatically goes down a letter grade. If both drafts are late, it then goes down two letter grades. If only one draft is submitted, the grade is automatically an “F.” Students who do not do the assignment receive a “0.”

E. HOMEWORK

This reflects the individual student’s effort and cooperation in completing all assignments. Homework is always checked and is corrected daily. All homework assignments are due when assigned, unless the student has an excused absence and then he/she can make it up within the time specified in the Student Handbook. Each homework assignment is worth “1” point. For each assignment (textbook, workbook, vocabulary list etc.) that is not done, a “0” is entered as the homework grade. In addition, up to a “+.5”can be added to the homework grade for doing extra credit on vocabulary lists only and up to a “-.5”can be subtracted from it for eachlate or incomplete assignment.

  1. CLASS PARTICIPATION

This reflects the individual student’s attitude and willingness to participate in all activities. Students have the opportunity to participate daily in class in a variety of ways. They may orally respond to questions, correct homework assignments, go to the board etc. Class participation also includes how often the students communicate with their peers and with the teacher in the target language.

  1. WEIGHTING OF GRADES

All written and oral tests, quizzes, writing assignments (compositions, projects etc.) will count as 70% of the quarter grade. Also, homework will count as 15% and class participation will count as 15% of the quarter grade.

  1. MID-TERM / FINAL EXAMS

Each exam does not affect the quarter grades, but together count as 20% in determining the final grade for the year (10% each).

  1. NOTATIONS
  1. MAKE-UP WORK

It is the responsibility of the individual student to see me regarding work missed due to an excused absence, tardy or field trip. As stated in the Student Handbook, the student has two days to make up the work for each day absent. If work is missed due to an unexcused absence or tardy, the student does not receive credit for such work but is still encouraged to complete the assignment, as it is a sequential part of the learning process.

  1. LATE ARRIVAL / EARLY DISMISSAL

Students who have permission to arrive to school late or to leave school early and who have an assignment due must hand in the assignment after their arrival or before to their departure. Failure to do so results in a late penalty.

  1. EXTRA HELP

Students may get extra help or make up work during my resource or planning periods, study halls, and/or after school. Please make an appointment with me in advance in order to check my availability.

  1. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

During a quiz or a test, a student found in the possession of any materials or information that pertain to that quiz/test, whether or not he/she uses that information on said quiz/test, automatically receives a grade of a “0.”
